Post 998 – It’s Monday

Got my hair colored to dark brown over the weekend and it wasn’t until I was getting dressed this morning that I realized I can now wear red shirts again. Yay!  I miss wearing red. I gave them up when I went red because…well, it would’ve been overpowering so now that I’m no longer rockin’ the red hair…I can tear out the red shirts. Yay!

Okay, enough of that. We’re just two days away from the start of the 1,000 Blog Post Celebration. I have lots and lots and lots of prizes to give away to one lucky winner, so tell y’all friends about it. It’ll be pretty epic, I think.

As for the weekend, it was too short. When you spend most of the day at the salon and barely have time to do anything else, it pretty much mangled the rest of the weekend. At least it did mine. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy getting my hair done because my sister gets hers done as well which means two to three hours of laughing and cutting up and then a nice lunch somewhere and then shopping. We went to Ulta afterward and I’m now the proud owner of new perfume, new moisturizer, fingernail polish and a new makeup brush. And that’s because I wouldn’t let myself look at anything else while I was there.

Sunday was football and I’ll say it right now. When Greer went down with that…leg…thing, I had to get up and leave the room. Not change the channel until they stopped showing slo-mo shots of his knee snapping in the wrong direction. I left the room shuddering and cringing and basically empathizing more than I should. I can’t even close my eyes without seeing it. Meh.

So that was my weekend in a nutshell. Hope everyone had a good one as well and that they’re ready for the giveaway this week!

Post 997 – Friday

Can I hear an Amen? Because yeah, it’s finally Friday. Man, it’s crazy how long a single week can feel. And that’s not even mentioning how long 10 minutes can feel, forget a full minute while you’re staring at a clock. Meh.

But it’s Friday and I have a full weekend planned. Hair. It’s about time to get rid of the blonde bangs. Not sure yet what I’m going to do, maybe tone it down a little since I don’t have anywhere to be until next October. I can start training my hair to like colors other than red and blonde. We’ll see though. Usually I don’t decide what I’m going to do with my mop until I’m sitting in the chair staring at myself. Of course that’s usually when I have these epiphanies about it. “How about…” and my stylist will either talk me off the ledge or say “I can do that”.

Other than that, I plan to write. Yup. I have a story that’s just about halfway finished and it needs to be finis before Thanksgiving so I’m going to work on that as soon as I find the time. It kind of helps that I’ve read through all the books I wanted to read in the last three weeks. Danica has been a reading machine lately which isn’t a good thing for the writing side of things, but I’ve finally hit a wall.

We’re only three posts away from the 1,000 Blog Post Giveaway Celebration. That’s just awesome. I hope y’all will stop by to visit and to enter to win the humongous prize I’ve gathered for y’all. Trust me, it’s huge. And be sure to tell your friends it’s happening next Wednesday, November 20!

For today’s Freaky on Friday song, I’m going with one that I love to sing along with. It’s another one of those songs that makes me want to hit the open road and just roam. So far everything I’ve heard from this band I’ve liked, so check it out and let me know what you think.

Meh for Monday

Really. I hate when the weekend has to end. I had a fantastic two days! I read. A lot. I was actually rereading and worked my way through *thinks* well, a lot of books. I loved it since I don’t get to do that very much anymore. For me, reading helps clear my head in order for me to write. I don’t copy what I’ve written, styles or anything, but it helps quiet the characters talking in my brain enough for me to sift through them until I find the one I need.

That doesn’t make me crazy, by the way.  A lot of authors hear their characters in their heads. Right?

But it’s Monday which means I have to get back to my story. And I’ve finally figured out where to start it. That’s always the hardest part for me. The start of a story. I know how I want the whole thing to go, know what I want in the middle and how I want it to end, but making sure you start at the right moment in order to hook the reader is the most important part of a book for me. If you don’t get me in those first three chapters, I won’t continue reading and I don’t want anyone to pick up one of my books and do the same thing.

So that’s what I plan to start on this week and work through the weekend doing. I love having a plan!

Oh and the Saints lost. Booo! That’s all I have to say about that.

Um, what else? Oh! I remember! I am going to hold a 1000th blog post giveaway here on the blog and I’ve recruited several writer friends to help me out. One thing I can say about the writing industry is that it’s close-knit and helpful. I’ve met some fantastic people in the five years since I started this journey. From people I’ve only talked to online to those I’ve had drinks with at conferences, there are some fabulous people in this industry and even better, they’re always willing to make friends.

I called upon several of them and my rafflecopter is going to be massive. Just sayin’. The giveaway will start on November 20th and run until November 27th and I hope to see y’all here!

On that note. Try to have a happy Monday!

Hail To Friday

I had good intentions this week. I was going to actually blog a lot this week. Okay, maybe not a lot, but I was going to blog more than I did. Then life did what it normally does and went batshit crazy. Work has been hectic and I’m telling y’all now, I’ll be glad when it calms down some. Then I sent Touched by Lightning, the superhero story I’ve been working on for months, to my editor. Now I’m waiting. But while I’m waiting, I’m working on a new story so hopefully that’ll keep me occupied enough that I don’t become neurotic over the fact that my editor has my life in her hands.

Not to be melodramatic or anything.

I’m hoping this weekend will be a good one where I can just relax and catch up on sleep. God, I miss sleep! But y’all really don’t want to hear all that. I know.

So this is what’s going on. I still have the Big Cocks & Broomsticks Giveaway going on even though Halloween is over. There are gift cards and other swag available from several blogs. Be sure to check that out. Also, every month I hold a Fan Appreciation Giveaway on my Facebook fan page. This month’s drawing is done, but you can always “like” my page to be entered for November’s giveaway. I think it’s going to be gift cards so people who’d like to use them for Christmas gifts can. Or they can be greedy.

And then I’m going to hold a big giveaway here on my blog on the day I hit my 1,000th blog post. Yes, you read me right. One thousand blog posts! Isn’t that whacked? I’m not sure what I’m giving away just yet. Maybe I’ll ask some folks if they’d like to donate something and just give it away. Hm, maybe I should actually plan this, huh?

Anyway, because it’s Friday and because I like music and missed my What’s Playing Wednesday post, today’s Freaky on Friday song is by the very sexy Avenged Sevenfold. *drools* I heard this song twice this morning so I figured it was meant for me to share it with y’all.

Let’s get this weekend started! Crank it up!

Let Your Hair Down

Happy Friday! Woo-hoo!! Is anyone else doing the happy dance like me? If not, I’ll do it for you. I can’t believe how intense this week has been, but I’m ready for it to end already.

Of course because it’s the start of the weekend, I have to share my plans. Because you must have a plan for the next two days even if it looks like this:

1. Sleep
2. Wake up
3. Shower
4. Go back to sleep

Hey, I’ve had weekends like that. This weekend though, I’m going to continue chugging away at my superhero story. I’m sooo close. Like this close -><- to finishing it and sending  it off to be used and abused by my beta readers and CPs. I think it’s good. Oh man, is it good. Probably the most painfully dark thing I’ve ever written, but sometimes when I write stories like that, I leave a lot of important stuff out. You know, like things other than the intense emotion I want to convey. Like…”Is this position even possible? Because I don’t think it is…”

Yeah, that’s why we all need people to read our stuff before we send it anywhere near an editor or agent.

Oh and I’m mailing stuff. A lot of stuff. Swag for RomantiCon, swag for a basket, swag, swag, swag. If you want some Romance Trading Cards, drop me an email at danica(dot)avet(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll send you some of my RTCs before they go in the box to RomantiCon. For the Ellora’s Cave conference, I have more shot glasses, compact mirrors and some brand new swag that are shammy coasters. They’re coasters that can also be used as shammys to absorb spills. I thought it was a cool idea and I hope readers like them as well. I’d offer to send those but I had them all shipped directly to Ellora’s Cave. If I have any left from the convention, I’ll let y’all know.

Did I mention football? Yeah, doing that too. Although after that last game, I might have to rethink watching. I’m not sure my heart can take it. *shudders*

Anyway, it’s Friday. Y’all don’t want to hear about my aches and pains and plans for the weekend, you want to get in the mood for your own fun, right? How about some 80s rock inspired music? You the kind I’m talking about. It makes you pretend you can hit falsetto notes and all you manage to do is sound like a dying cat. Yeah, I’m talking about The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”.

Great earworm for Friday, don’t you think?

Um Yeah

I hope everyone has had a good week. I’m still trying to get back in the swing of things here at the evil day job. It would help if I could sleep through the night without waking up at least twice. But we all have our crosses to bear. This weekend though….Oh this weekend isn’t as innocent as last weekend. There’s no trivia night in sight. Nope. Seems that A.M. Griffin is going to be in town which means we’re going to go buck. Wild. In New Orleans.

I’ve warned Lea Barrymire she might get a phone call at some point asking for her to hit up the Cabal funds to bail us out of jail. I’ve even warned my sister she might get a call but she told me I was on my own since I wouldn’t let her stalk Peyton Manning. Whatever. Anyway, we’re going to be tearing it up in the Quarter this weekend. Just not too much I hope. I am still recovering from surgery. If we hit a strip club I can only wave my dollar bill with my left hand. Darn it.

But we’re not at the weekend yet. And it’s a three-day weekend at that which means most people are going to be kicking back chillin’ or sleeping as much as possible (the way I want to) or barbecuing and stuff. And you need inspiration to get down to your groovin’ or grilling or even your sleepin’. Which is why we’re have Freaky on Fridays.

Yup, it’s another chance for me to play DJ (and if you have songs you want to feature, let me know and I’ll add them to my list) and share songs that will kick off your weekend. Sexy songs, party songs, anything that I feel is a good way to start off your Friday night fun. I’ll also be including once a month guest posts. I’m working on getting my guests lined up now and hope to start that in September. It’ll be fun!

So…I’ll admit I changed my mind about what song I was going to play because I just heard it in the car and this song took me back to a time when I was sitting in a theater watching Channing Tatum hump a stage. It was the first time I ever found myself jealous of an inanimate object. I’ll also admit I only went to see Magic Mike for Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello. Until I saw Channing Tatum perform to this song. Is it superficial? Yes. But as Lea told me, at least I’m honest. Because holy snikey, but this song puts me in the mood. Like Pavlov’s dog, I associate it with uber sexiness.

Happy Friday y’all. Have a safe weekend and sit back, let this song work on your mind…and if you’ve seen Magic Mike…picture Channing Tatum dancing on you like a good bad boy. *sigh*

Get Freaky on Friday

Since I started this blog oh…however long ago it was, I’ve always done a sexy man in pictures and interview. I haven’t done that in a long while and I think I’ve worn myself out with it. This doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy looking at sexy men or talking with them. What, are you nuts? I adore the menz! They’re just tough to tackle. Lea Barrymire, my buddy who does Tattoo Tuesdays, was trying to help me out for a while by asking her tattoo guys if they’d like to be here…but some were too shy for the questions we asked. But that’s okay. Men can be mysterious too.

So…I tossed around some ideas of what I could do for Fridays because Fridays has always been about the sexy for me. Hello, weekend! We all want to get in the mood for a little fun. Whether it’s wild and crazy or cool and mellow, Friday is easily the best day of the week and that’s why I’m going to kick off your weekends with some sexy songs. Yup, we’re going to start getting Freaky on Fridays.

I’ll even take requests for songs you think should kick off the weekend. Post your requests in the comments if there’s something you want to share with the class. If you have a great story about the song you want to include in the post, hit me up at danica(dot)avet(at)gmail(dot)com with the song, link and your story and I’ll be glad to add it.

So today kick off Freaky on Friday, I’m going with a song that I keep hearing that puts me in a mood to dance. Now, I can’t dance unless Jack Daniels is holding my hand, but when I hear this song…I’m like “oh yeah, I have rhythm and grace, oh  yeah, I can be smexy, smexy”. Luckily it only happens when I’m driving so I don’t actually do much more than wiggle in the driver’s seat (probably not a good thing).

Today we have Santana with Rob Thomas and “Smooth”. I can’t help it. Between the lyrics and that guitar…I’m a goner every time I hear it. Which doesn’t fit in with my metal head image, I know, but oh well.

Be sure to let me know what song you’d like to share for Freaky on Fridays!

Happy weekend  y’all!
