Bio: Serena began her writing hobby at an early age, creating stories out of love and a desperation to bring the voices to life. However, when the mountain of post-it noted ideas toppled, she decided to take her passion for writing seriously.

With encouragement from her family, she began writing erotic paranormals to provide an outlet for the characters rambling around in her head—each one edgy, a little dangerous, with a whole lot of sexy.  A hobby turned into career and she’s never looked back.

Serena Shay, erotic romance author, lives in the north with her super supportive hubby, beautiful, Darling Diva, daughter and two crazy, but loveable dachshund pups.

Blurb: Serena Shay returns with Book Two of her intense paranormal romance series Northwood Jags. The Submission takes you on a journey of discovery as three shifters learn to face their fear of the unknown and open their hearts to love.

Serena Shay coverTwo is better than one. Most would agree with that statement, but not full-blooded shifter LeAnn Turone. To accept her need for multiple partners means facing a lifetime in a one-sided triad. She’s better off denying her heritage even if that means walking away from two of the most delectable alpha males she’s ever met.

Rick Taylor and Trent Warren each think they’ve found their mate in LeAnn, but a midnight meeting deep in the woods proves them wrong. Not only do they both long to connect to the sexy, but skittish female, they also find themselves attracted to one another.

Each member of this triad must free themselves from the fear of the future and submit to the greater power of love.

Excerpt:

“A-are you okay?”

So she hadn’t left as he’d thought. Her voice was soft and whispery; different from what he’d expected, yet it still oozed strength and moxie to boot. If not for the flickering stars obscuring his vision, and the inability to stand while keeping his stomach where it belonged, he’d paddle her ass for causing him distress.

“How do you think I am after taking a chair to the back of the head?” he groused from his laid-out position on the floor.

Trent spied her feet moving closer to the front door. He needed to rein in his anger and belligerence if he hoped to keep his newly found mate close. She’d suffered a horrifying attack—growling at her would just send her running, but what had stopped her from laying waste to the idiot attacking her. Her shape-shifter strength far exceeded that of some human male.

“Fine—good-bye.”

“NO, wait…” Trent lifted his head sooner than advisable. Stars throbbed in his vision, and his lunch almost succeeded in its bid for freedom. “Fuck!”

She paled, more than he’d thought possible for someone with such fair skin. Her eyes were wide with fear as tiny cries escaped from closed lips. So lovely and all his, but the knowledge of anyone, including himself, hurting her infuriated him.

“What’s your name, beautiful?” Trent asked when he was finally able to move from his hands and knees to his ass.

She shook her head with the slightest of movements, facing him but keeping her back to the door.

“What shall I call you then … mate?”

“Not that! I have no intention of mating with anyone.”

“Funny how fate and Mother Nature take that choice away from us all…”

“Doesn’t matter…”

“Really?” Trent rubbed his thumb and forefinger around the pressure points between his eyes and above his nose. “Why are you still here, beautiful? Morbid curiosity? Want to see if you were strong enough to kill me?”

About Lea Barrymire

Lea lives in Western New York with her hubby, three children, and miscellaneous critters. Before the rugrats, she lived a life of adventure, following her husband all over Europe with the US military. She’s slept in a car outside Paris, drove six hours just to see tulips in the Netherlands, and knocked ash from her shoes at Pompeii. Now she spends her time in life’s adventures at soccer games, PTA meetings and school plays.

Lea has loved reading from a very young age, spending many sleepless nights devouring books. Science fiction and paranormal were her favorite genres to read as a teenager, and that love bled into her adult life. She started writing during a bout of insomnia, to fill time, and found it filled a creative void. Now she communes regularly with the characters in her head and tries not to laugh out loud when they say something funny.

When Lea isn’t reading, writing or corralling kids, she enjoys watching movies and sciencey shows, or just kicking back and listening to some music.

Blurb: Willie Krenshaw wanted nothing more than a few minutes watching the waters of Lake Erie after a long workday. What she ended up with was a drugged male vampire and an itch to be a Good Samaritan.

When her inner kitty starts sniffing around at the male she’s helping, she knows Fate’s evil sense of humor is in full swing. Being a shifter-vampire hybrid is hard enough, but having a male vampire as her fated mate is just too much.

Nickola, the vampire she assists, finds her breathtaking and does all he can to push Fate’s agenda.

Stephen is the male vampire Nickola is investigating for the Council. He takes aim at the couple, intent on pulling Nick to his side or killing him. Between Stephen’s scheming and the Council’s interest in Willie, can they survive the chaos long enough to test the depths of their passions?

Excerpt:

“Help me, please.” A hoarse male voice begged from under the pile of rags in the alley. A pale hand trembled from beneath the rubbish, reaching toward her. She tensed, anticipating an attack. She relaxed slightly when she caught a glimpse of the man under the pile. She stood rooted in the mouth of the alley, conflicting thoughts running through her head. Stay and help the dude, or leave him as food for the bloodsucker? She felt horrible even thinking about leaving the man to a vampire attack. She knew how painful that could be and didn’t wish that on anyone, especially some drugged out homeless guy. She also didn’t want to stick around and find out what a vampire was doing in her city. She edged along the sidewalk, warring with herself.

Leaving the guy to the mercies of a vampire made her feel guilty and left a bitter taste in her mouth. The man had asked her for help. She couldn’t leave him to the suckhead and live with herself in the morning. She hesitated for a moment before turning toward the heap of man on the ground and approached reluctantly. He better really be in need of help and not trying to lure her into a mugging. Good luck with that if he was human. He’d find out that not all women walking the streets were weak. She reached over her shoulder, digging her hand under her jacket, and grabbed the hilt of her short sword. Relief and comfort radiated from the cold steel. She pulled her favorite blade out from the sheath she wore strapped to her back and approached the man cautiously. The eleven-inch blade and heavy hilt were comforting to her and eased the tension in her shoulders.

The knife had been a gift from Robert when she turned fifteen. He’d spent hours each day training her on hand-to-hand combat both with and without weapons. She’d learned years ago to be very proficient with the blade, taking down more than a few vampires that had gotten it in their heads to kill her. She lived now only because of her training and her blade. With Robert’s help, she’d fashioned an over-the-shoulder holster that could be worn under a coat without anyone else guessing what she carried.

“Please.” The heap moaned and moved until the man was on hands and knees. The broad back of a large, muscular man spread out in front of her under a dark coat painted in last week’s trash. His movements were slow and awkward, almost jerky. Willie wondered if he was drunk or high. That would explain the uncoordinated movements. She didn’t smell any strong alcohol rolling off the man, though, so perhaps it was a medical concern. The scent of vampire was stronger, and she scanned the rooftops trying to catch a glimpse of the bloodsucker. She hoped that the owner of the scent wasn’t too close to this location. She really didn’t want to be forced into a fight tonight.

Blurb:

Renae Gioli isn’t looking for adventure but it finds her in the form of an Italian speaking man named Alexandre DiMassone. The moment she hears his voice in a crappy dive bar she’s entranced. His strange behavior on the dance floor leaves her hot, wanting, and scared.

He’s captivated by her eyes and even as he fights it the vampire can’t help himself. Can he push aside his jaded attitude and embrace what Fate has given him before he loses her? His obsession spells trouble and lust for her. Kidnapping her was never in the cards, but he doesn’t have the willpower to let her walk away.

Rogue vampires, cougar shifters, and more intrude on their time. Can she forgive him for forcing his will on her and changing her entire life in a single bite? His arrogance knows no bounds but she catches a glimpse of the confusion beneath.

Excerpt:

She stood and pulled her phone from her pocket. She was surprised to see a message waiting for her from Meg. Well, at least she didn’t need to worry about finding her friend. Meghan once again had found someone to entertain her for the rest of the night. Her message was short and to the point. “Got a ride home from Mark. Call you in a.m. Have fun.”

“Your friend seems to have left you. Perhaps you will stay awhile with me so we may talk out your concerns?” That smooth voice moved over her nerve endings, sending a shiver through her limbs. Even knowing he was weird, and a potential hazard, didn’t stop her body from reacting. Her pussy creamed just a little at the thought of listening to his accent. Down girl. Psycho boy is not a good idea.

“Sorry, Alex. I’m heading home. Have a good evening.” She continued walking through the crowd, hoping he didn’t follow her. She had pepper spray in her purse but didn’t want to use it.

He seemed like a nice guy, so maybe this whole thing was some sort of hormonal imbalance on her part. Maybe she needed to get laid. Perhaps her reaction to his kisses had nothing at all to do with him, and was all about her lack of male attention for over a year. She would feel really bad if she blasted the man with pepper spray if he truly had nothing to do with her arousal and almost-orgasm. If that were true, though, how did he know that she was a bubbling caldron of lust? Why did he suggest he could fix it if he wasn’t at least partially to blame for it? Perhaps the man was delusional. That would explain him singing in a dive bar and not out on the town with a model-perfect girlfriend.

She glanced a few times over her shoulder to make sure she hadn’t been followed, and took a deep breath when she pushed her way outdoors. By the time she made it through the crowd and into the parking lot she felt completely normal. The arousal she’d felt inside the bar had dwindled to a faint increase in her heartbeat. Her mind was clear and she was ready to put the whole night behind her. She could look at it like a funny story to tell friends. Remember that guy who tried to drug me after humming an Italian love song in my ear.

Renae unlocked her car with a beep. Just before pulling the door open she was wrapped in a tight embrace. A strong arm wound around her waist, slamming her back against a solid male chest. The other arm banded across her chest and squeezed the breath from her lungs. She squeaked in fear, terror bloomed quickly in her body, adrenaline burned through her veins. She tried to drag in enough oxygen to scream, but the arms around her body grasped her tight enough to restrict her breathing. Her instincts took over, slamming her head back into her captor, kicking backwards, wiggling, squirming, anything to get free. Nothing loosened his hold on her, she was trapped. Her mind blanked. Her heart was racing, pushing blood too quickly through expanding blood vessels. Adrenaline surged through her body, sharpening her senses and sending her senses into overdrive. Her body wanted to run, hide, escape.

“Be still, dearest Renae. I will not harm you, but you are too much of a mystery to me and I find I need to solve it.”

Rock My World

On the Sixth Day of Pre-Release the author gave to me…

…Fusion music! The inspiration for some of the tunes mentioned in the Unveiled Seductions series, including book four, which is being released on December 4, 2013.

Anya Cover From the first time I envisioned the character of Xbal Montegro, jaguar god, sex magic practitioner and hero of Jaguar in the Sun, I knew he was going to be a music promoter. It fit with the story line since the Midnight Café, setting of the series, had branched out from tattooing to become a hangout spot, complete with stage shows. Besides, I loved the idea of the kinds of fusion music you might find beyond the Veil, a place where old gods, fey, weres, vamps and all kinds of other characters of myth and lore live.

The first mention I made of music in the series was a Vamp-Ska band… and I had a gypsy-ska song my daughter had introduced me to years before as the inspiration. Neither of us could remember exactly which song it was (might have been Coffee, God and Cigarettes by Mischief Brew, but I seem to remember more of a ska beat to the song) so I went looking on YouTube to see if I could find it. Of course, I found something even better (and a new favorite group) in Gogol Bordello. Here’s sort of what I had in mind when I dreamed up Vamp-Ska, although Gogol Bordello is usually described as Gypsy Punk:

In Jaguar in the Sun the heroine, Cassie, goes to Xbal’s office to proposition him and there’s a band in the lobby, jamming. This is the description of what she hears:

Immediately she was bombarded by a blast of sound coming from a group of people lounging in the reception area, each one with an instrument in hand. This was music unlike any she’d heard before, with a driving, almost discordant backbeat provided by a couple of guys, one with a pair of Congo drums, the other with what looked like a plastic tub. Above it was overlaid the wail of a bagpipe and the counter-beat of a bass guitar. And flitting through it all were the high, sweet notes of a wind instrument—a piccolo by the sound of it—diving and climbing between the other sounds, weaving them all together into something magical and strangely compelling. Enchanted, she paused in the vestibule and let the door swing shut as the music washed over her, somehow soothing her nervousness and, at the same time, heightening her anticipation.

There are a number of really good Celtic fusion groups and sounds, but being attracted to the sounds of Africa, this fusion of Celtic and Gwana music really appealed to me:

I love all kinds of music, as you might have figured, so this has been so much fun to dream up and research. I’m already cruising YouTube looking for the next inspiration! Tomorrow on the Seventh Day of Pre-Release, I’ll be at Amy Ruttan’s blog talking about my idea of where the old gods go when they disappear from our world. I bet you can guess where that is!

Cassie can’t tell Xbal the truth about what she’s about to do. It’s illegal, but without her death the entire world will perish. It’s a job she’s been preparing for from birth, but the loss will be greater now. Interview with Jared Stevens of Private Release:

Danica: What is your real, birth name?
Jared: Jared Edward Stevens.

Danica: Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it?
Jared: Well, I’m called Chief by my right hand man and my sister will call me a dunderhead. Unfortunately, Adele has picked up this habit as well if she’s annoyed with me.

Danica: What do you wear when you go to sleep?
Jared: Nothing *grins wickedly*

Danica: Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?
Jared: I live in Winnipeg. In a penthouse suite. That’s all I’m going to say on the matter. You don’t need to know the specifics.

Danica: What was your family like?
Jared: Loving. I had a happy childhood.

Danica: Who was your father, and what was he like?
Jared: My father was Chief of Beare Enterprises before me. He was formidable man, a loving father and a great Chief. It’s hard to feel his shoes.

Danica: Who was your mother, and what was she like?
Jared: It’s hard for me to talk about my mother since her murder. I loved her. So much. She was the best.

Danica: What was your parents’ marriage like? Were they married? Did they remain married?
Jared: My parents were happy enough. They were married. It was arranged and they remained married until they were killed.

Danica: What were your sibling’s names? What were they like?
Jared: I have a sister. Her name is Sheridan. She’s a perpetual thorn in my side *smiles* but I love her. She lives in Ontario now.

Danica: What’s the worst thing one of your siblings ever did to you? What’s the worst thing you’ve done to one of your siblings?
Jared: My sister duct taped me to a wall as a child. The worst I’ve done to her… left her alone to deal with that monster Levi. I’ll never forgive myself for that.

Danica: When’s the last time you saw any member of your family? Where are they now?
Jared: I saw Sheridan early in the year in Dawson City. Then I went to her wedding with Gordon Thomas in Winnipeg, before she moved to Ontario. She lives east of Toronto.

Danica: What tape or CD hasn’t left your player since you purchased it? Why?
Jared: I purchase MP3s and the last song I bought was Hurricane by Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Danica: What song is “your song?” Why?
Jared: Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. *grins* I love Johnny.

Danica: What’s been your favorite movie of all time?
Jared: Walk the Line. See above.

Danica: What annoys you more than anything else?
Jared: These questions. Too personal.

Danica: What’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
Jared: Adele.

Danica: What kind of weather is your favorite?
Jared: I love summer, when I’m not shifted. Winter when I’m wandering around as a bear.

Danica: What is your favorite food?
Jared: Caribou. *grins wickedly*

Danica: What’s your favorite animal? Why?
Jared: Polar bear. It’s a bit obvious isn’t it?

Danica: What was the worst injury you’ve ever received? How did it happen?
Jared: I was shot by Levi trying to protect my sister. It was painful and I couldn’t shift for so long.

Danica: What would you wish for if you found a genie?
Jared: What the hell kind of question is this?

Danica: What do you do when you are bored?
Jared: *Doesn’t say anything, just grins*

Release Day Fantasy Man

Today isn’t our average Friday. Oh no, it’s Release Day for Primal Song! Wooooooooo! Can you hear me screaming from there? Seriously, y’all, I am hyped up, ready to get this show on the road.

Why do I suddenly have the urge to say, “We love you Detroit! Goodnight!” Heh. I guess the guys from Saber (my fictional band) have influenced me more than I realized.

*calms down* Okay, that isn’t working. I’m giddy. I love release days. It’s one of the best highs of being a writer. You work for months on a story, polish it until it shines and let it go. Fly, be free, little book! And you pray it doesn’t take a nosedive. But even that fear adds its own weird rush to the joy of having a new book out.

When I got the release date, I looked at the calendar and thought, “How cool is that? It’s coming out on a Friday!” And we all know what Fridays are about here on Unearthly Musings. The menz. Fridays are about sexy menz and their sexy bodies and their ripped abs and bulging um, everything heh.

So I found a man who closely resembles what I imagine Ram to look like. You probably think he’s all golden blond hair and all, but he isn’t. This is what I picture him like when he’s trying to seduce Daisy:

Oh yeah…nom, nom, nom, gimme some! Daisy is a lucky witch to have this hunk of gorgeous to come home to. Well, once they work out their problems, but wouldn’t you give things a shot if you had this man waiting for you, all sexy rock star and testosterone? Hell, I’m not sure I’d ever leave him alone. I’d be all grabby hands and drool. Okay, maybe not the drool…unless he was doing a Magic Mike dance for me. Then it’s on!

Happy Friday y’all. If you get the chance, check out my release day party over at Close Encounters with the Night Kind and enter to win prizes! Unfortunately, this guy is not part of the giveaway. Even if I did have him to give away, I certainly wouldn’t. Heh.
