A Long Time Coming (Part One)

It’s been two weeks since RomantiCon and I’m sure y’all were all wondering where my review was. Well, life gets crazy. I swear, since the beginning of October, I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. By the way, do chickens really run around after their heads are cut off? I may have grown up in the country, but we didn’t have chickens. My uncle did, but those little fuckers were mean and I never went around them. I left that to my brother and cousins. Cannon fodder.

Anyway, RomantiCon. Le sigh. Oh RomantiCon. I wish you could last for longer than four days. Honestly, I think I told Lea Barrymire that I wished life was RomantiCon interspersed with writing and reading and family time. Why do we have to come back to the real world after such a great, long weekend? Why? (Imagine me falling to my knees screaming this to the sky. Because I can be melodramatic too.)

I got there on Wednesday, arriving a day before the actual conference started. First off, let me just say I had a layover in Tampa, had about three Bloody Mary’s with this 80-something year old lady who was on her way to Baltimore for the Ravens’ game. I asked who they were playing and she said, “I don’t know, I’m just going to party.” Hell yeah! I had to have drinks with her after that. So by the time I got to Ohio, I was feeling pretty good. Found the shuttle and settled myself in the middle row while the driver went to find other passengers headed to the hotel.

But when he returned, it was with seven…Cavemen. Now when I’m traveling, I’m not in Danica mode. I’m in me mode and me, I mean I don’t dress up, wear just enough makeup to not scare little children and my hair is always in a pony-tail. So you can imagine my horror when I look up to see the seven buff, attractive Ellora’s Cave cover models headed my way like they were strolling out of a Quentin Tarantino. You know, slow motion, the wind whipping around them, shades on…cue the awesome soundtrack.

The driver says, “I have more people than I thought, maybe you’d like to take the passenger seat?”

Y’all, I jumped out of that van so fast I probably looked like someone had pushed me out. All I could picture was me being squished on that seat surrounded by muscles while looking like holy hell and it was enough motivation to get me moving faster than I’ve moved since my brother kicked me in the nose and ran away from me. I caught him, by the way. Anyway, I was safely seated in the passenger seat, buckled up and smiling brightly when seven very muscled men forced themselves into the van. With Aline Hunter perched on the stool between me and the driver. Good. God.

This is trouble waiting to happen. And it was just the first day of the conference!

I’m not going to give a blow-by-blow assessment of the whole conference because I have pictures for that. Yes, pictures. But, I will say that I really wish it wouldn’t have ended. And there were some highlights for the conference. Mainly me trying to take out three cavemen during one of the group shots on Bollywood night. Yeah. Totally. Bad shoulder + saree + kneeling to take a picture = Danica is stuck on the ground. I may have used Rodney’s broad shoulder to hoist myself to my feet wherein my saree fell apart right there on the stage. Yup, it started unraveling. Thank god I was wearing full on clothes underneath. For everyone’s sake.

Before the sauri and knock-down-the-cavemen moment

I did two workshops this year. The first one was “There’s an App For That” and OMG, we had so much friggin’ fun! I mean, seriously, we had so much fun I think I want to do it again next year. Slightly different of course, but look for yourself!

From left to right, Lea, Me, Jose, Ramrod, Griffin and Cara

Two of the teams trying to get the position right with the aid of Tyrone, Tammy, John and Judy…(The blowup dolls)

We had guest judges, Desiree Holt, Joey Hill and random audience participant Nancy overseeing the antics

Then Saturday, I took my turn with the cavemen. Okay, for two days in a row, there are photo shoots. The cavemen are made available for “book cover” like pictures with the registrants of the conference. Last year I took two pictures and I was so nervous and scared and ecstatic, I thought I was going to pass out. This year, I was a little more comfortable. Until I got up there.

You want me to what?

This was after Daivd grabbed my hair because “I know it gets in the way.” Um.

Then I become a giggling mess…

A hysterical giggling mess because David, the lovely man behind me, began to hump me

This is the final shot. In the others I was laughing too hard for you to see anything but my mouth.

Tomorrow, I’ll continue the saga of RomantiCon as told by blow-up dolls. Needless to say, we had a blast and I’m already gearing up for next year. Oh, what am I saying? I was ready for RomantiCon 2014 as I was checking out of the hotel on Monday morning. It’s the best fun you can have with…well, I was going to say with your clothes on, but mine fell off at Bollywood and the Cavemen walk around half-clothed most of the time. Well, it’s still fun.

Bad Girls

I’ve been such a bad blogger this year. I’m sure when I get to the last post of the year, I’ll think “But I didn’t blog much this year!” because I haven’t. Maybe it’s a natural part of diving deeper into my writing. Which I haven’t been doing. Or maybe it’s just laziness. Whatever it is, I do apologize for not blogging as much as I used to.

I’m trying to fix that. It might even be a New Year’s Resolution. Which I never follow anyway. Oh well, looks like y’all are out of luck!

This is going to be a busy weekend, by the way. This afternoon, I’m heading to Lake Charles, Louisiana for the Ellora’s Cave show and book signing with some great Cavemen. You can tell I’ve been waiting for this for a while, right? I was so concerned back when I found out when it was because of the shoulder. But I know if I can fly to Ohio to be crazy at RomantiCon, I can definitely cheer and go crazy over the dancers. *cough*

Once I get back to town tomorrow, I’ve got to jet to my nephew’s 2nd birthday party. He’s so darn cute I could just eat him up with a little spoon! I can’t be late for that, so chances are I’ll be sleep deprived when I get there tomorrow. Add onto that edits I’m expecting from my CPs and it looks like I won’t be getting any rest this weekend. But hey, how does that saying go? No rest for the wicked? And I can be very, very wicked when I want to. 😉

So to come back to the title of this post…Because tonight’s show is going to be hunky men doing their thing on the stage, it’s going to be great. And although this song is so played out because of Bridget Jones’ Diary and I think it was in Magic Mike as well, it’s perfect for the craziness that’s sure to go down tonight.

This is my Freaky on Friday song dedicated to the Cavemen show tonight. I hope to do a full RomantiCon blog post next week, so look for it!

Stuck In My Head

I’m not doing a recap of RomantiCon yet. I’m still trying to recover from the trip (yes, it was that amazing) and get myself in order. I have edits to finish on my latest WIP, another WIP to start and finish before the end of November and another to start immediately after that. Can we say Danica is going to be a busy girl?

I say I’m not going to recap yet, but today’s What’s Playing Wednesday song is something that keeps replaying in my mind because of RomantiCon. Or rather because of the cavemen and their Old Hollywood performance. There’s just something about men in skin tight, black pants dancing on and around chairs that gets my motor running.

So today’s song is one that was played during the performance that nearly brought the house down. Those cavemen sure are talented and add in Tom Jones’ sexy voice and it’s a recipe for insanity.

Happy Hump Day!

About Lea Barrymire

Lea lives in Western New York with her hubby, three children, and miscellaneous critters. Before the rugrats, she lived a life of adventure, following her husband all over Europe with the US military. She’s slept in a car outside Paris, drove six hours just to see tulips in the Netherlands, and knocked ash from her shoes at Pompeii. Now she spends her time in life’s adventures at soccer games, PTA meetings and school plays.

Lea has loved reading from a very young age, spending many sleepless nights devouring books. Science fiction and paranormal were her favorite genres to read as a teenager, and that love bled into her adult life. She started writing during a bout of insomnia, to fill time, and found it filled a creative void. Now she communes regularly with the characters in her head and tries not to laugh out loud when they say something funny.

When Lea isn’t reading, writing or corralling kids, she enjoys watching movies and sciencey shows, or just kicking back and listening to some music.

anglingforlove_msrBlurb:

Arin Walters decides that after ending her long-term relationship with her cheating boyfriend, she needs a vacation in the Montana mountains. She packs her fly-fishing gear and heads off for a week of relaxation and emotional healing.

Brent and Jared have been best friends since childhood. The abuse they suffered as children binds them together. They want a woman to share and build a life with but they’ve been burned in the past.

When Arin shows up at their fishing lodge, sparks fly and all three feel the beginning of something they crave—acceptance and love. Now they must hope that the passion between them is enough to help them leave the past behind.

Excerpt:

Brent’s grunt brought Jared back from his thoughts. Brent was the polar opposite of Jared—probably why they made such good friends. He was stuffy and immaculately dressed, tidy and organized. Jared was none of those things. He was the heart and soul of the pair. He was the messy, unorganized romantic. Brent was the planner and the brains of the operation.

“You’ve known her for, what, two hours? Already you’re in love? Damn, man, this was the fastest yet,” Brent sneered. He raised his eyes off the newspaper for a moment, then shook it out, delving back into its pages.

“Shut your face. You’ll see—just wait. You’re gonna go ga-ga over her nerdy perfection.” Jared threw his head back against the chair and sighed. “I can’t wait to get her between us, man. She’s a little shy now, but I can feel the fire just under her skin. And the best part? She loves what we do. You should’ve seen her talking about her old man and the trips they used to take. She was almost vibrating with the joy of it all. I can’t wait to get her in a stream and watch her face as she hooks the first beast.” He groaned and closed his eyes. “I’m gettin’ hard just thinking about it.”

“You’ve got it bad.”

“I know. Just be nice when she comes down, okay? Don’t do the normal grumpy-puss that scares off all the females. Don’t you want to find someone? I mean, we’ve talked about kids and life beyond bachelorhood.” He slowly raised his head and found Brent staring. “Don’t you want that happiness for us?”

“Of course I do. We’ve talked this to death. But wishing for a girl and finding one are two different things. Just because you want to find a woman to stay doesn’t mean that the next one who shows up single is going to be her. You need to stop throwing your heart out there.”

“And you need to stop keeping yours caged. How is anyone supposed to fall in love with you if you’re grumpy and surly all the time?” Jared could feel his anger mounting. “I can’t do all the work, dude. If we’re going to find someone to love us enough to stay, you have to be willing to try too.”

“You don’t think I try? Really?” Brent sat up. “Who do you think puts you back together every fucking time you get your heart stomped on? I watch you fall for these girls I know are only out to get laid. But you do it anyway, time after time. What am I supposed to do? Fall for them too so we can be bawling women after they leave?”

In The Mood…

Ohmmm. I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for today. I must’ve blown a circuit or something on Saturday with my big writing day because ever since I’ve been dragging ass. I want to sleep. In fact, sleep is like the sexiest thing in the world to me right now. Like, if Gerard Butler, M. Shadows or Vin Diesel were to say, “Danica, would you like to come with me to my secret hideaway and so I can shower you with more pleasure than you could possibly handle?”

My response would be, “Eh, is there a comfy bed?”

Okay, maybe not. Cause those men are sexy! I’d probably latch onto them like Velcro and never let them go. “But we can be together forever! Oh look, it’s Vin/M. Shadows/Gerard.” (Because I can be fickle.)

Anyway, sleep sounds delicious. Except I keep having weird dreams. I suppose with RomantiCon coming up, my brain is trying to get me ready for it or something because I’ve had several dreams about the conference, or a conference, then more recently I’ve dreamed about doing squats. I’m talking about a gazillion squats. Is it any wonder I’m so tired when I wake up? I’m working out in my dreams!

So yeah, we need some music about dreams or sleeping or something. *thinks* Several songs came to mind, but they were all slow and depressing. So I chose this:

I do enjoy Stone Sour. A lot. And the title is fitting, isn’t it?

Hope y’all are sleeping more than I am!

Caveman Taylor’s Song Pick

It’s time for What’s Playing Wednesday. It’s also the anniversary of 9-11. Twelve years ago…right about now, I was in bed with the radio playing, but something in the DJ’s voice caught my attention. I stumbled out of bed to the living room and watched in horror as events unfolded.

Lots of times I’ll hear my parents talk about where they were when x happened. As I grow older, I realize those are sad milestones of our lives. Where were you when…Yeah, where were you? I always remember that morning when this date passes around and it saddens me to realize there’s so much hatred in the world.

I was going to pull this post this morning out of respect, then I realized that’s wrong and giving in. We’re meant to live our lives and if listening to music shared by a handsome man is the way we live, so be it. Yes, honor those who were lost twelve years ago, remember and give thanks to the emergency personnel who risked their lives trying to save others, and give thanks to those who fight to keep us safe.

And enjoy some music by Caveman Taylor.

Normally I have themes, but with RomantiCon coming up, I decided to hand the music controls over to some of the cavemen. If you’ve been to the Ellora’s Cave conference, you know just how much fun it is hanging with these guys. They’re all really awesome guys with a great sense of humor. They’re also hot as hell, but y’all already know that from past Fantasy Man Friday Interviews.

But I find knowing what people listen to is probably a better way to get to know them than anything else. By now, most of you probably know I have musical ADD. I have a tough exterior with a sappy, sentimental center. That’s what you’ve probably learned from my music choices over the past…er, 4 years?

So what will we learn from today’s Caveman? Oh, did I mention it’s Taylor? Sexy, funny Caveman Taylor who also co-wrote the Take It Off  books? Just in case you don’t remember him, this is Taylor:

1044850_10201023382774226_1846518893_n

Hehe. Sorry. Ahem.

So Taylor, when I asked what song he was digging on lately, chose Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”. Hm, I wonder what exactly that means? I’ll be honest, I’d never heard this song until Taylor mentioned it. Not really my speed, but it’s kind of groovy, yeah? Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think! And be sure to check out Taylor on Facebook!

Spotlight on Tyler Robbins

Today I have the spotlight on m/m erotic romance author, Tyler Robbins. Here’s a little about Tyler’s latest release, A Beautiful Lie which came out on April 28, 2013!

abl1m

Blurb:

Jesse Reagan has had more than his share of tragedy, and he may have been dealt another blow when, once again, cancer threatens the sister who raised him. Faced with the possibility of being left behind, Jesse vows to care for her young son, though he’s not convinced he can.

When Trip Cantrell returns to town, he’s blindsided the instant he’s reunited with his kid brother’s lifelong friend, Jesse. His inability to find happiness in the years he’s been gone, suddenly makes sense. Love’s been waiting at home all along.

Life begins to look promising, except for the fact that neither have come out of the closet publicly, and that’s not even their biggest problem. Someone has a secret so shocking they may never find a way past it.

Will they be accepted in their small Texas town, or will secrets, lies, and the threat of tragedy destroy everything?

Excerpt:

Trip could feel the tension radiating from the other man. Following his instincts, he gripped Jesse’s shoulder and squeezed. “You’re not alone you know. If you ever want to talk or need help with anything, let me know.”

Jesse turned his head, shocking the hell out of Trip by leaning in to where Trip held his shoulder, slightly brushing his cheek against Trip’s fingers.

Trip tightened his grip, savoring the feel of Jesse’s skin touching his. Was he imagining it?

Jesse slowly lifted his chin as his green eyes, darkening by the second, settled on Trip.

Trip’s heart raced, and his hardening c**k pressed against the zipper of his jeans. Was this really happening?

He inched closer, inhaling deep, losing himself in the aroma of Jesse’s quite memorable cologne. He swallowed hard, his lips tingling at the thought of Jesse’s mouth on his.

Jesse’s chest rose and fell, his breathing grew louder by the second, infiltrating Trip’s mind until his own breaths caught up, matching Jesse’s pants breath for heated breath. Jesse’s eyelids lowered to half-mast, his desire obvious as f**k.

Trip reacted on instinct alone, no thinking, just doing. He pulled Jesse closer until their lips were centimeters apart. Jesse’s exhales warmed Trip’s skin.

The night went silent the instant Jesse’s soft lips grazed Trip’s.

Seconds felt like hours until Trip engulfed Jesse’s mouth all together. With hungry sweeps, Trip dove deeper, sucking, and tangling his tongue with Jesse’s. He cupped the back of Jesse’s neck, and held on as their mouths warred for dominance over the other.

Trip gasped when Jesse’s wandering hand discovered his erection through his jeans. “F**k.”

Hot air poured over Trip’s neck as Jesse’s kisses blanketed his throat.

“I’ve wanted to do that all night.” Trip splayed his fingers through Jesse’s silky, black hair, hoping against hope Jesse would move his mouth lower.

Jesse fumbled with the buttons on Trip’s shirt, and plucked the first few open. He worked his way across Trip’s chest, circling Trip’s erect nipples with his warm, wet tongue. “S**t, Jesse.” Trip struggled to catch his breath. Everything was so intense, moved so fast, Trip could hardly tell if it was real.

He leaned Jesse back, seizing the few stolen moments he hoped were actually happening. His kisses grew heavier, and his need increased. He’d take it as far as Jesse would let him. He had no choice. Please let this be real.
