Justin “JB” Blake has never met a woman he couldn’t bed—or one he wants to keep. That changes the second he lays eyes on Princess Saia Xochis. The beautiful alien makes his body burn and his heart ache. She will be his. All JB has to do is risk life and limb at the hands of her abusive father, her protective brother, and her warmongering intended mate.

The possibilities of death and dismemberment have never stopped him before.

Inside Scoop:  This book has a small taste of female/female fun—as well as scenes of abuse that are decidedly not fun.

A Romantica® sci-fi erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Ellora’s Cave

“Oh Jesus.”

If it weren’t for the tone in Jess’ voice, Saia wouldn’t have been pulled from watching the human male across the room.

Jess placed a hand across her eyes and shook her head slowly.

“Pardon me?”

Jess groaned. “Please, please look at something else.”

Saia let her gaze go back to the male. His black hair was cut short. His blue eyes were framed with an abundance of dark lashes. Light seemed to dance in his eyes as he smiled in her direction.

Is he smiling at me?

She took a quick peek left then right

He’s smiling at me!

Her heart leapt for joy. His graceful smile was only for her. She giggled and placed a hand over her mouth.

“He won’t be satisfied until he’s dead,” Jess muttered.

She turned to Jess. “What are you talking about?”

Jess watched the male across the room as well. But instead of smiling, she made a slow motion across her neck with a finger. “I’m referring to the slow death he’s sure to get if he keeps flirting with you.”

She turned back to the male. No one had ever flirted with her. She smiled again.

“Good gracious, don’t encourage him!”

“Do you know him?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” Jess rolled her eyes. “Maybe I should start saying that I knew him.”

The lights turned low, signaling the beginning of the dinner entertainment. The voices in the dining hall became hushed. Saia strained her eyes to make out the silhouette of the human.

Slow, rhythmic drums began to beat. Light shone from the stage door. One torch, then two, then three, until finally there were six. In the darkness, the torches zipped through the air, swung in circles, tossed and caught.

Every now and again, she could catch a glimpse of him and found that he still watched her as well.

Her heart seemed to thump in time with the drums. His smile had dropped but his stare was intent just the same. His gaze seemed to bore through her. Right to her soul. And she found she enjoyed it.

She leaned over to whisper, “Tell me his name.”

Jess shook her head. “Ignore him like I do most days and watch the show.”

Ignore him? She couldn’t. “But I want to know his name.”

Jess looked at her. “Listen, Princess Saia, this can’t happen.”

“What can’t happen?”

“You and JB. Taio would never allow it. You’re getting married and JB’s going back to Laconia. I’m trying to keep him alive at least until then.”

  1. She turned to look at him again.

Jaybee. What a wonderful name.

“Argh, can you at least get that dreamy look off your face?”

“Is he a slave?”

“Is he bonded?”

“Can you introduce me to him?”

“Absolutely not.”

Jess raised a brow. “Have you seen the size of your brother?”

Jess was right. Taio was extremely protective of her. That was the very reason why she could never tell him their father had long been striking her and her mother. And she couldn’t forget that she was contracted to bond with Ranuit Pi.

And just like that, an overwhelming sense of dread had ahold of her once again.

There could be no flirting. No smiles from across the room as she’d heard described on many occasions from people who had fallen in love. Her fate belonged to someone else.

Victoria Pinder grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, after passing many tests proving how easy Math came to her. Then hating her life at the age of twenty four, she decided to go to law school. Four years later, after passing the bar and practicing very little, she realized that she hates the practice of law. She refused to one day turn 50 and realize she had nothing but her career and hours at a desk. After realizing she needed change, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is rewarding, but writing is a passion.

During all this time, she always wrote stories to entertain herself or calm down. Her parents are practical minded people demanding a job, and Victoria spent too many years living other people’s dreams, but when she sat down to see what skill she had that matched what she enjoyed doing, writing became so obvious. The middle school year book when someone wrote in it that one day she’d be a writer made sense when she turned thirty.

When she woke up to what she wanted, the dream of writing became so obvious. She dreams of writing professionally, where her barista can make her coffee and a walk on the beach, can motivate her tales. Contemporary romances are just fun to write. She’s always thinking whose getting hurt and whose story is next on the list to fall in love. Victoria’s love of writing has kept her centered and focused through her many phases, and she’s motivated to write many stories.

General, are you sure you want us to go?” Peter asked.

Aurelius smiled. “Think of it as a gift. The massages are known around the galaxy.”

The friendship between her husband and the General made working with her husband possible. Regulation amongst officers didn’t support familial relations. Aurelius added, “They are reputed to be the best hosts in this quadrant, and you need to relax.”

Grace barely contained a snort. The General had no idea. She bit back her sharp tongue. For over ten months she’d spent more time with strangers than she did her own husband, unless working in Command counted. Her lips pursed. It had stopped being enough a while ago. She needed to stop working around the clock just to see Peter.

Peter hoped to run his own ship one day. The emptiness inside her grew, though she’d known all along of Peter’s dreams. She let out a small exhale. When they’d been six-years-old, back on Earth, he’d made missions into space sound like a dream world where excitement and adventure waited around every star in the sky. She’d adored him, following him everywhere. But the reality left a lot to be desired. Covering her mouth, she told herself to stop pouting.

She’d always loved him.

At his station, Captain Cross took a quick step forward, gaining everyone’s attention. “I joined this crew to fight the aliens who attacked us, not to maintain good relations with model types not looking to serve in the fight. We need to find those who attacked us, sir.”

“We are not pushing into deep space to search for them until we have a full crew,” Peter answered. “We’re almost ready, but General Aurelius demands the best crew available from all the colonies.”

Do you have anything in common with your characters?
Unfortunately I don’t. I would love to be a martial artist like Eva or a princess like Sa’Mya. In my head I’m both though. 😉

What item, or items, is absolutely necessary to your writing mojo?
My son has two toys that I’ve taken too while writing. One is a spongy ball and the other is some kind of prickly thing. I find that while I’m trying to think things out, I reach for them and it helps to get the thoughts and idea’s flowing. He of course, has noticed that I like to keep them on my nightstand and has hidden them. But in his defense, if asked, he will retrieve them for me.

Do you have any rituals for writing or special locations that you prefer to inhabit when you’re writing?
No rituals, but I like to write in bed, propped up by pillows. I get distracted easily, so writing anywhere else would pull my attention away from my characters. I have tried writing at the mall once while my kids were shopping, but I didn’t get even a sentence out. I kept stopping to buy cookies and shakes. They were calling my name.

Right now, what items are on your desk that you’d be embarrassed to admit to?
I claim every unique item on my desk. Not embarrassed at all. But my favorite thing on my desk is a clay ashtray that my daughter made for me in school. Even though I don’t smoke, I have it proudly displayed and filled with pennies.

What’s the strangest (neatest, coolest, etc) thing you’ve ever done?
I went zip lining in Jamaica. It was so amazing but scary as hell! We were high in the mountains and had to zip our way down. My legs were literally shaking. I haven’t been that scared before or since! When I did peek and open my eyes, it was a beautiful view.

What was your favorite subject in high school or college?
I’m a total slacker, so my favorite subject in high school was dance. Our geeky troop performed at all of the half-time shows and school assemblies. We were really good, and I’m not just saying that. We likened ourselves to Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation dancers. My high school boyfriend and his friends used to call us Rhythmless Nation dancers, but I’m pretty sure it was pure jealousy since he ended up marrying me.

What are you currently working on, or what’s on the horizon?
The third book in this series was picked up by Ellora’s Cave, Dangerously Hers. I’ll spend the next three months or so working on the edits and getting Jessica Moore’s story refined and kick ass. I’m about 3/4ths done with JB’s story, the fourth book, title forthcoming. And of course, Eva’s friend Ally’s story (5th book) will be completed by the summer. I also started a wolf shifter story that I hope to have completed by the end of the summer as well.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Read! My TBR list is growing out of control. I used to read 2-3 books per week and I’m pretty sure that’s what I read for the entire year in 2012. Even though I haven’t been able to read as much as I would like to, that hasn’t stopped me from buying books from my favorite authors.

Quick Questions:
Summer or Fall?
Summer! Fall *gags*

Pedicure or massage?
BOTH! Who says I have to choose one? Sadist…

Paper or plastic?
Plastic. I know, I know. Not good for the environment.

Cats or dogs?
Most definitely dogs. Cats *shivers*

Time Flies

Happy April Fool’s Day. Which makes no sense whatsoever really. Who wants to be made a fool of? Meh. April Fool’s Day isn’t a big deal for my family since they prank each other all the time. This is just a blip on their radar.

No, I’m going to talk about how fast time is flying. Because really, I can’t be the only one who realized we’re in April. Already. Already! It seems just like yesterday we were celebrating making it through the Mayan End of Days and we’re now in the fourth month of 2013. FOURTH! Am I the only one having trouble wrapping their mind around this?

I had such huge plans when 2013 started. I had eight, or was it ten, books planned for the year. Do you know how many I’ve written since the start of the year? Two very short stories. I’m close to finishing the third, but hello. Eight, or ten, stories a year means I’d have to write a story every month and a half. And they can’t all be under 10k words. No, they have to be more than that. But the one I’m trying to finish now is testing me. Oh those sneaky characters!

For those of y’all wondering, yes, I am working on the third book in the Cajun Heat series. It’s tentatively called Primal Flavor and it’s about that bad boy chef and baker, Zach Trahan. And let me tell y’all, he’s tested my patience. What was supposed to be a quick, hot read has turned into an emotional mess. I didn’t even know Zach had all of these feelings, but he’s surprised not only me, but also his heroine. This story has surpassed the previous two Cajun Heat books in word count and it doesn’t seem ready to stop yet. However, I’m almost positive I can get it finished this week. So that’s one more book down for the count.

Should be a major yay, right? Hmph.

Finishing Primal Flavor only means I have eight months to write the fourth book in the series, two contemporary romances I’ve got planned for a series, another short story or two (an exokita and a spoof), a sci-fi I can barely wait to get my hands on again, possibly another paranormal (a spin off from the Cajun Heat series), and a contemporary romance I have a title for, but no story yet. Yes, I do come up with titles first sometimes. It just happens that way. And don’t even get me started on all the plot bunnies that popped into mind yesterday while I was at the zoo. Mais, it’s enough to make me crazy.

I have to buckle down, so it’s probably a good thing we don’t have anymore holidays coming up for a few months. Okay, okay s there’ll be a whole week I won’t write because I’ll be at RT, but after that…it’s on! And that means the next time I lift my head from the grindstone, it’ll be October and I’ll be in Ohio for RomantiCon. Right?

How about y’all? Has time been flying for you? Or do you feel like a kid again and the days keep dragging?
