Let Your Hair Down

Happy Friday! Woo-hoo!! Is anyone else doing the happy dance like me? If not, I’ll do it for you. I can’t believe how intense this week has been, but I’m ready for it to end already.

Of course because it’s the start of the weekend, I have to share my plans. Because you must have a plan for the next two days even if it looks like this:

1. Sleep
2. Wake up
3. Shower
4. Go back to sleep

Hey, I’ve had weekends like that. This weekend though, I’m going to continue chugging away at my superhero story. I’m sooo close. Like this close -><- to finishing it and sending  it off to be used and abused by my beta readers and CPs. I think it’s good. Oh man, is it good. Probably the most painfully dark thing I’ve ever written, but sometimes when I write stories like that, I leave a lot of important stuff out. You know, like things other than the intense emotion I want to convey. Like…”Is this position even possible? Because I don’t think it is…”

Yeah, that’s why we all need people to read our stuff before we send it anywhere near an editor or agent.

Oh and I’m mailing stuff. A lot of stuff. Swag for RomantiCon, swag for a basket, swag, swag, swag. If you want some Romance Trading Cards, drop me an email at danica(dot)avet(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll send you some of my RTCs before they go in the box to RomantiCon. For the Ellora’s Cave conference, I have more shot glasses, compact mirrors and some brand new swag that are shammy coasters. They’re coasters that can also be used as shammys to absorb spills. I thought it was a cool idea and I hope readers like them as well. I’d offer to send those but I had them all shipped directly to Ellora’s Cave. If I have any left from the convention, I’ll let y’all know.

Did I mention football? Yeah, doing that too. Although after that last game, I might have to rethink watching. I’m not sure my heart can take it. *shudders*

Anyway, it’s Friday. Y’all don’t want to hear about my aches and pains and plans for the weekend, you want to get in the mood for your own fun, right? How about some 80s rock inspired music? You the kind I’m talking about. It makes you pretend you can hit falsetto notes and all you manage to do is sound like a dying cat. Yeah, I’m talking about The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”.

Great earworm for Friday, don’t you think?

Cover Reveal

I don’t have a fantasy man interview today. Sorry. The menz are not working with me lately, but that’s okay. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with all of them. Really. Maybe once I’ve recuperated and had time to stalk I mean, discover new muscled men who like do bare it all, I’ll bring the friday interviews back.

But I’m not leaving y’all hanging. Nope, I have some awesomeness to share. Like the cover of my upcoming release, Primal Flavor (Book 3 in the Cajun Heat series). This one is about the tiger shifting chef, Zachary Trahan, and his  human huntress, Colette Robicheaux. No blurb yet, but I’ll just say that it’s spicy. And not just because Zach is one hell of a chef. Things happen that probably aren’t coded to happen on kitchen tables and sofas. But I’m not saying what they are.

So please, enjoy the long-awaited cover for Primal Flavor. I’ll be over here drooling over it. Because yeah, it’s a hot cover. It could almost be a fantasy Friday picture, don’t you think?primalflavor_msr

The Great Swag Scramble

Sorry for being such a downer yesterday! I swear, I’m not normally that woe-is-me. Or at least I try not to be.

Anyway, sometime yesterday morning I realized we’re nearing RT. Sure, sure, we still have fifty-three days and all, but really…that isn’t enough time when you have things to do! Like me. Oh man, I have things to do. I have clothes to buy and outfits to figure out. I have my hair to fix and get all awesome (you know I have to get something special for this convention, right?).

Then I have to start figuring out what kind of costume I’m wearing for the Ellora’s Cave Disco party. Meh…I want comfortable so I’m thinking I’ll wear jeans and a vintage style t-shirt with like Orange Crush on it or something and go all Farrah Fawcett on my hair. *flips it over her shoulders and lets it blow in the imaginary breeze* So that’s one outfit. I think. I have to get dressy clothes *mutters* and things to wear the rest of the time. Jeans are good the entire time, right? It isn’t like I’m important or anything…maybe I can get one of those massive, floor-sweeping skirts so I can pretend I’m girly.

Oh and I have to get swag. Swag is perhaps the most important part of a convention for an author after their wardrobe. The swag readers pick up at a convention is something they’ll (hopefully) have for several weeks, months maybe even years afterward. It’s the hope of the author that once the conference is over the reader will utilize the swag and think of the author and her books. I’ve had Romance Trading Cards (which I’ll have this time around as well). I’ve had guitar key chains and sewing kits (for Primal Song and Primal Design). This time, I’m going to try other objects that have my logo on them like the header at the top of this page. Nothing too suggestive, just my name and info. I think. I might need to see if they can put my website on the items I chose.

But the point of this is, I spent several weeks wondering what I was going to get for this convention. If I was pimping out a book, I’d choose something from the book for the theme, but since I’m pimping myself as an author…it’s a little more difficult. I mean, I want this to be stuff people want to keep, but I don’t want something too bulky either. *sigh* Ah well. I’ll probably change my mind a few million times between now and the deadline to get items.

Oh! If you’re not going to RT, but want to be a “part” of the experience, RT and ARe are teaming up to give readers a chance to participate from home. Click on the Book Expo button on the right sidebar for details.

What conferences are you going to this year?

But with one scorching glance the mating frenzy ignites and passion trumps reason. An intense first encounter levels Daisy’s reservations—and most of her living room. And she’s not so sure she minds.

Ram Reinhardt has burned through and brushed aside just about every adrenaline-inducing thrill life’s thrown at him. But Daisy sets the gold standard for a premium rush. Her combative personality should turn him off, but every time they fight they end up in bed, or on the floor, or against a wall—and the sex is always more combustible than the time before. And he’s not about to give that up. Ever.primaldesign_msr

Fashion designer and bear shifter Kitty Chambers thought fifteen years was enough time to get over her first love, Monk Badeaux, but when she sees the sexy cougar again, her mating instincts return and it’s all she can do to keep her paws off him. Despite her wariness, Monk unearths a part of her sexuality she’d never known existed, using it ruthlessly to win her back. Monk is hazardous to her well-being and her heart, but Kitty isn’t sure she stands a chance against all this heat.

If you love something, set it free. Monk Badeaux did that and suffered the consequences. When Kitty comes home, he falls head over heels in love with the independent, no-panty-wearing woman his childhood sweetheart has become. And she hates him. Luck is on his side when he discovers his mate has a streak of exhibitionism he’s more than happy to exploit if it’ll bring them closer. Alleys, school gyms, cars…no location is sacred when a cougar is out to win his mate

For the past fourteen years, Victoria has illustrated and authored Seasons of the Witch calendars and planners and written several non-fiction books on magickal arts.

Though fiction was initially a departure for her, she had this series simmering on the back burner of her mind for years. In addition to authoring and illustrating Seasons of the Witch, she plays Classic Rock music (keys, rhythm guitar, vocals) and manages one of Houston’s premier party bands.

This series will eventually include some of her actual experience in the paranormal with fictionalized anecdotes from her journals during the years when she was a practicing “metaphysician” along with material from her academic education in parapsychology.

Hello Monday

And October. Can you believe it’s already the 4th quarter of the year? I can’t. It seems as though we just entered 2012 and we’re nearly ready to wave goodbye to it and hello to 2013. Ooh.

I had a productive weekend. Got my hair done, had a girls lunch with my mom and sister, watched some football, wrote a little and even wrote my blog post for Darker Temptations. Do you remember that blog? If not, you definitely need to check it out. Especially if you’re interested in winning prizes. We’ve revamped the blog, added some new bloggers and a fantastic giveaway. We’re a group of erotic paranormal, sci-fi, futuristic and steampunk romance writers. Say that five times fast.

And to celebrate the grand reopening of the blog, we’re holding a two-week giveaway. Yup, every day of the blog from October 1 through October 13 (excludes Sundays), there will be a prize to win. All winners will be announced on October 15th, which is the same day I come back from RomantiCon. Oh, RomantiCon. I can’t wait.

Of course there was some sad news this weekend as well. Angelo, one of Ellora’s Cave cavemen lost his life trying to do a good deed. I never got the chance to meet him, but he had a winning smile and the comments I’ve read from other Ellora’s Cave authors suggests he was a sweet, wonderful man. It’s such a shame his friends and family lost him so violently and my heart goes out to them.

*sigh* What a Monday.

How was your weekend?

Oh, and by the way, I’ve made it a full seven days without a cigarette. Woot!

Saber Inspiration #5

Well, I’m hunkered down waiting for Isaac to do what it needs to, but I haven’t forgotten about What’s Playing Wednesday.

Today marks the last day of the Saber Inspiration themed Wednesdays. I’ve had a lot of fun playing songs that either influenced me, or reminded me of the band. From AC/DC to Avenged Sevenfold, the guys of Saber are a mishmash of some of my favorite bands and I love sharing their music with you.

Primal Design book two in the Cajun Heat series comes out September 19th which means next month’s theme will be dedicated to songs that remind me of my characters, their situation or their jobs. It’ll be a wide range of songs, so I hope you’ll join me for that.

Back to today. This song is one of my current favorites. Any time I hear it, I sing along (badly) and rock out. It’s slow and kind of mellow at first, but toward the end, it picks up until it’s galloping to the final chord. It’s excellent and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well.

Today is Avenged Sevenfold’s Buried Alive. I could totally see these guys as my band, Saber.

Fantasy Man Friday

Woot, woot, it’s Friday. When I pried my eyes open this morning, it took me a few minutes to realize the weekend is about to start. That was enough to get me moving because I’m ready to get this week over with.

It hasn’t been awful, mind you. The blog tour for Primal Song has been going wonderfully and it’s still going on. Last night I did my first internet radio interview. I don’t think I embarrassed myself. Of course I haven’t listened to it, so maybe I did. Maybe I was breathing heavily or something, or you could hear my stomach gurgling. I don’t know. I’m kind of scared to find out, LOL. Today though, I’m over at the fabulous Queen Tutt’s World of Escapism with another interview and a giveaway. If you’re looking to hedge your chances of winning, be sure to check out the entire list of stops to make sure you’re entered in all the giveaways that are still going on. And there are a lot.

I haven’t written at all this week. Okay, that’s a blatant lie. I have written. And promptly deleted everything I put down on paper. It’s this part of the writing process that drives me insane. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, it’s usually because I’m trying to start the story in the wrong place. Last night while I was waiting to start my interview, I played Angry Birds and brainstormed and I think I’ve finally figured out where to start the book. Cross your fingers because I need to get this story written and submitted soon. I’m aiming for subbing it to my fabu editor by the middle or end of September.

And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The Fantasy Man. Over at the interview today, Ronda asked the readers who their favorite band is and what kind of shifter they’d be. I think that’s a great question. So let’s try to guess what kind of shifter today’s Fantasy Man would be…

I’m thinking wolf. It’s almost like he’s begging for me to scratch his belly. Among other things, heh. Ahem. What do y’all think? Do his slumberous eyes make you think “lion”? Do his muscles make you think “bear”? While y’all decide, I’ll be putting on my meat pants ’cause this guy looks like a carnivore.

Happy Friday!

On the Air Tonight

Not in the air, although that’s a fantastic song.

It’s a busy day for me over in Danica Land. Today I’m at Nette’s Bookshelf Reviews with a giveaway to win a digital copy of Primal Song and a swag pack. Be sure to enter for a chance to win!

You can also tune in tonight as I chat with Elaine Raco Chase over at the Author’s Corner. It’ll be my first internet radio interview and I’m nervous as all hell, but hopefully I won’t babble too much or drawl to the point of being unintelligible. I believe they take callers during the show, so check it! Head over to www.trianglevarietyradio.com – click on blog talk radio at 8PM EASTERN time….podcasts are available after the show!

Now if I can just figure out how to get my whiny dog and fat cat to leave me alone enough to talk without a lot of background noise…

Fantasy Man Friday

Another week has ended and I’m sure we’re all breathing a sigh of relief strong enough to rival a hurricane.

I had a good week. Good because I got the edits back on Primal Design (Cajun Heat 2) and they weren’t as awful as I thought they’d be. That’s one of my biggest worries when I get the “dreaded” edits in my email. How bad is it going to be? Will I want to curl into a ball and cry for Mama because they’re awful? Turns out they were good. A few plot problems here and there, a few spots that needed clarification, oh and a here/hear issue that made me want to slap myself.

It’s easy to do. I think. I get caught up in the scene and my fingers will fly over the keyboard. And apparently I can’t spell when that happens. What made me want to slap myself though is that I didn’t catch the problem during my editing and revising stage before sending it to my editor. It was one of those head slap moments that will ensure I never do it again.

But today’s Friday and it’s the start of my blog tour blitz. I’m over at Close Encounters with the Night Kind with a book review. This is a massive tour and there’ll be several goodies up for grabs. From backlist books to Primal Song swag, it’ll be an almost nonstop party. I hope y’all will stop over to learn more about Ram and Daisy and the world of the Cajun Heat series!

And now for the very special part of Fridays. The Fantasy Man (echo of manmanmanman).

Hello, rock star! I don’t know if he’s a rock star, but he looks it, doesn’t he? The tattoos, the hard body and he’s teasing us with it all. If only he’d just drop the damn pants! *goes back for several more looks* Yummy…pardon me while I wipe away the drool.

*several minutes later* Oops. I was mesmerized by his abs…among other things. Heh.

Happy Friday! Have a safe and fun weekend!

Saber Inspiration #3

We’re in the third week of our Saber theme. I’ve taken part in so many interviews and answered so many questions in preparation of Primal Song’s blog tour, I feel even closer to the characters in my story than I did when I was writing it.

The town of Maison Rouge, Louisiana is a close-knit community and one I easily identify with. When I watched the video for today’s song, at first I was leery about posting it. I don’t condone stealing and stuff. In fact, it pisses me off like nothing else. However, there are some clips in the video, especially the scenes with the band, that reminded me of my wilder college days. Not that we did anything truly nuts. Unless you call roaming the streets on a golf cart at three in the morning, or tossing old Christmas trees on our bonfire nuts.

It was the bonfire in the video that made me think of those days. It was all about just hanging out with my friends, drinking, talking, feeding the fire, and discussing our future. We weren’t into blatantly breaking any laws. Okay, so there was that one time we were shooting fireworks after midnight, but it’s the country!

When I came up with the band, Saber, I thought about the kind of music they’d play. I knew it would be hard rock and decided they’d be more of a down to earth band, one who plays songs people can connect with. Songs about the everyday struggle in life. Hellyeah kind of has that vibe to them. They have that new Southern rock thing going on that I love so much. I like to think of it as a modern version of Lynard Skynard or .38 Special. This song is called “Hell of a Time”.

Remember, I do not condone the activity taking place in this video. Heh
