Touched by Lightning Playlist 2

Touched by Lightning comes out just a week from today and I’m so excited I can hardly sit still. Actually, I’ve been so consumed by this release and making sure I cover all of my bases, I haven’t touched my WIP in two weeks. Which kills me because I have plans for this year, big plans that involve me writing like a fiend. And yet I’m failing at that.

Anyway, before I get to today’s song, I wanted to remind y’all that I have a Scavenger Hunt going on right now through Candlelight Book Promotions. I’m giving away a $25 gift card and an Order of Themis travel mug. It’s pretty sweet, if I say so myself. And when I forgot my personal travel mug at work one day, I was tempted to grab one of the mugs I’d put aside for promo. I didn’t. They’re all unused, but it was a near thing. Just sayin’.

So if you didn’t know about the scavenger hunt, here’s a little info:

And now to the next song on the Touched by Lightning playlist. Remember, these songs aren’t the only ones I listened to while writing this story. They just happened to be the ones that spoke to me the most. I think I may have shared this song once before, but while writing Gyda and Brit’s story, it was one of the few that managed to really dig into the heart of the pain between these characters. I tell you this because I don’t want y’all to think “Oh, Danica’s just got all brooding on us”. I do listen to happy songs too. Granted, there aren’t many “happy” songs I like, but I’m not all doom and gloom. *sniff*

Anyway, Corey Taylor, Dave Grohl, Rick Nielsen and Scott Reeder got together to make this song for a documentary about a music studio (I can’t remember the name of the studio at the moment) but the instant I heard this song, it moved me. And it was perfect for Touched by Lightning. Here’s “From Can to Can’t”.

In The Mood…

Ohmmm. I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for today. I must’ve blown a circuit or something on Saturday with my big writing day because ever since I’ve been dragging ass. I want to sleep. In fact, sleep is like the sexiest thing in the world to me right now. Like, if Gerard Butler, M. Shadows or Vin Diesel were to say, “Danica, would you like to come with me to my secret hideaway and so I can shower you with more pleasure than you could possibly handle?”

My response would be, “Eh, is there a comfy bed?”

Okay, maybe not. Cause those men are sexy! I’d probably latch onto them like Velcro and never let them go. “But we can be together forever! Oh look, it’s Vin/M. Shadows/Gerard.” (Because I can be fickle.)

Anyway, sleep sounds delicious. Except I keep having weird dreams. I suppose with RomantiCon coming up, my brain is trying to get me ready for it or something because I’ve had several dreams about the conference, or a conference, then more recently I’ve dreamed about doing squats. I’m talking about a gazillion squats. Is it any wonder I’m so tired when I wake up? I’m working out in my dreams!

So yeah, we need some music about dreams or sleeping or something. *thinks* Several songs came to mind, but they were all slow and depressing. So I chose this:

I do enjoy Stone Sour. A lot. And the title is fitting, isn’t it?

Hope y’all are sleeping more than I am!

I Blur My Line

I had a completely different song planned for today. Then I remembered this song.

I know y’all probably get tired of me talking about how much music means to me. But no matter what’s happened in my life, what I want to happen, music has always been there. It’s my faithful friend, my rock and my shoulder to cry on. Music never cares about my mood, but it affects it. It can calm me, soothe my soul, feed my muse and lift me up. It can fire me up, fill me with determination and motivate me beyond what I believe my threshhold is.

Today’s song is one that does all of that and more. It inspires me. Maybe it’s the moody guitar riff at the beginning, so simple and unadorned. Or maybe it’s the actual lyrics, or the vocals that reaches into my chest and causes my heart to soar. Whatever it is, I adore this song. It makes me feel both heavy and light, captured and free. How melodramatic, huh? But that’s what music does for me. It’s the most important component in my writing arsenal. Without it, I’m lost and unorganized.

When Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana came together to celebrate Sound City Studios and performed this song together. From Can to Can’t is an amazing piece of awesomeness. At least I think so.

What do you think?

What’s Playing Wednesday

Greetings y’all! It’s a beautiful day here in south Louisiana and I’m hyped up, ready to hit the WIP. I have so many ideas swirling around my head I can barely contain myself. I’m trying though because I’m just not a perky person.

On the drive this morning, I was seriously rocking out to everything from The Used to Radiohead to Avenged Sevenfold (I really do love those guys). So when I let the MP3 player choose today’s song, I was very pleased to have it pick another hard rockin’ song.

I’ve talked about this band before; I think I may have even played one of their other songs, but this one is right up there with one of my favorite songs ever. I have to listen to it as loudly as I can whenever it comes on. The band is called Apocalyptica. If you don’t remember me talking about them, they’re heavy metal cellists from Finland.

I know what you’re thinking…cellists? Playing heavy metal? Oh yeah…and they look damn good doing it too. Rar. *cough* They have a lot of instrumental stuff which rocks, but they also add songs with featured guests. They’ve had everyone from Adam Gontier with Three Days Grace (Three Days Grace placed that song in concert and I went insane) to Gavin Rossdale from Bush.

Today’s song features Corey Taylor of Slipknot. I looooove Slipknot. They’re easily in my top 10 favorite metal bands. I never had the chance to see them live, but I’m ever hopeful…even if I am 40 something years old when it happens. I’d tried to see Apocalyptica live, but they cancelled their show in New Orleans. Le sigh. I need to go to a concert soon (Just so you know).

Anyway, this song is called I’m Not Jesus and it’s wicked. I don’t know if it’s because you can see Corey Taylor’s face, or if it’s the tattooed, muscled arms of the cellists, but…yeah, rar.

Hope you enjoy the song and it gets your muses shuffling along, if not moshing! Have a great day, y’all!

By the way, I’m over at my group blog Four Foxes One Hound today talking about my mom. Stop by!
