Touched by Lightning Playlist 5

I really meant to blog Monday and Tuesday, but forgot. Things have been insane. I’m just glad I remembered to blog today!

I can thank Avenged Sevenfold for that. They’re coming to Lafayette in April and I want to go because I love their music, but they helped me blog today because thinking about them reminded me of this song which was one of the frequently played songs while I was writing Touched by Lightning.

But before I get to that, I just wanted to let y’all know that beginning March 1st, I’m taking part in the TRR (The Romance Reviews) Anniversary Party. That’s right, not only do I have another blog tour starting on the 3rd with prizes, but I’m also giving away an ebook copy of Touched by Lightning to the winner of my Q&A on TRR’s site. So I have two buttons for you to check out when the time is right. On Friday I’ll post the schedule for the blog tour which begins on Monday. Is that confusing enough? LOL

Touched by Lightening Button 300 x 225

So back to the song.

Again, I love Avenged Sevenfold. And not just because I’m crushing hard on several of the members. *cough* Their music works for me when I’m writing. I could probably list an easy half-dozen songs that I listen to while I’m working, but when I think back to certain moments in the book, I recall this song being one that stood out the most. My heroine has had to become tough due to her past. She’s afraid to trust, but in the end, she has to actually make herself vulnerable.

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but this whole book is about second chances and working for your own happiness. It’s dark. I know I’ve said that before, but I’m not sure people realize just how dark it is. And I did that on purpose because without that darkness, that pain, how can you truly appreciate the beauty of the second chance Gyda’s been given? Ah well, I hope when readers are in the story they realize there’s a method to my madness.

Anyway, today’s song is Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold. Enjoy!

Friday Fun

Well, it’s fun for me, not so much for Atlanta fans. Sorry guys.

I didn’t get much sleep last night because I wasn’t going to bed until the final second ticked off the clock in the 4th quarter of the Saints-Falcons game. Call me paranoid, but too much happens in the last few seconds of the games, especially this season. But we pulled out a win and woo-woo! 9-2 baby! Now we just have to battle Seattle next week. *sigh*

Not going to talk about football this entire post, promise. I probably lost some of y’all at the first sentence. Your eyes glazed over, drool started to pool at the corner of your mouths and the rest of this blog post will be lost. Ah well. Sorry about that.

However, since the Saints played last night, that means I’m reasonably free on Sunday. I’ll still end up watching as many games as I can. That Denver-New England game promises to be a good one, but because my boys aren’t playing, I can work. Yeah, fun right? Meh. Eh, actually it isn’t all that bad. I have a book to edit and another one to finish in order to meet my year-end goals. So I can start 2014 with a clean slate. No works in progress, no half-finished stories that are driving me crazy. I can kick off January with a new book and let it flow.

At least that’s the theory. Not sure how it’ll work but I’m going to give it the old college try!

That means this weekend is dedicated to writing. So is the day before Thanksgiving and the weekend after Thanksgiving. If I’m not in a tryptophan coma. Making a note to myself now: Don’t gorge on turkey. Eat the Korean food. We’ll see if that sticks.

The song I chose to kick off the weekend sounds pretty epic. It’s Avenged Sevenfold’s newest single “Shepard of Fire”. I really like it and it puts me in the mood to write. Win-win situation!

Happy Friday, y’all!

Hail To Friday

I had good intentions this week. I was going to actually blog a lot this week. Okay, maybe not a lot, but I was going to blog more than I did. Then life did what it normally does and went batshit crazy. Work has been hectic and I’m telling y’all now, I’ll be glad when it calms down some. Then I sent Touched by Lightning, the superhero story I’ve been working on for months, to my editor. Now I’m waiting. But while I’m waiting, I’m working on a new story so hopefully that’ll keep me occupied enough that I don’t become neurotic over the fact that my editor has my life in her hands.

Not to be melodramatic or anything.

I’m hoping this weekend will be a good one where I can just relax and catch up on sleep. God, I miss sleep! But y’all really don’t want to hear all that. I know.

So this is what’s going on. I still have the Big Cocks & Broomsticks Giveaway going on even though Halloween is over. There are gift cards and other swag available from several blogs. Be sure to check that out. Also, every month I hold a Fan Appreciation Giveaway on my Facebook fan page. This month’s drawing is done, but you can always “like” my page to be entered for November’s giveaway. I think it’s going to be gift cards so people who’d like to use them for Christmas gifts can. Or they can be greedy.

And then I’m going to hold a big giveaway here on my blog on the day I hit my 1,000th blog post. Yes, you read me right. One thousand blog posts! Isn’t that whacked? I’m not sure what I’m giving away just yet. Maybe I’ll ask some folks if they’d like to donate something and just give it away. Hm, maybe I should actually plan this, huh?

Anyway, because it’s Friday and because I like music and missed my What’s Playing Wednesday post, today’s Freaky on Friday song is by the very sexy Avenged Sevenfold. *drools* I heard this song twice this morning so I figured it was meant for me to share it with y’all.

Let’s get this weekend started! Crank it up!

Saber Inspiration #5

Well, I’m hunkered down waiting for Isaac to do what it needs to, but I haven’t forgotten about What’s Playing Wednesday.

Today marks the last day of the Saber Inspiration themed Wednesdays. I’ve had a lot of fun playing songs that either influenced me, or reminded me of the band. From AC/DC to Avenged Sevenfold, the guys of Saber are a mishmash of some of my favorite bands and I love sharing their music with you.

Primal Design book two in the Cajun Heat series comes out September 19th which means next month’s theme will be dedicated to songs that remind me of my characters, their situation or their jobs. It’ll be a wide range of songs, so I hope you’ll join me for that.

Back to today. This song is one of my current favorites. Any time I hear it, I sing along (badly) and rock out. It’s slow and kind of mellow at first, but toward the end, it picks up until it’s galloping to the final chord. It’s excellent and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well.

Today is Avenged Sevenfold’s Buried Alive. I could totally see these guys as my band, Saber.

Author Interview: Olivia Cunning

Hey y’all! I’m so excited to have a very special guest with us for What’s Playing Wednesday. Usually, I let my MP3 player choose a song to entertain you, but after reading this author’s books, I knew she had to stop by for a visit. I may have stalked her whined at her a bit, but she’s been a great sport and I can’t wait for y’all to meet her.

So please give a warm welcome to Olivia Cunning!

I know one of the most frequently asked questions to an author with a series is “What gave you the idea for the series”? I’m not going to ask that. No, I want to know who was your inspiration for your band members?

I got the original idea for Backstage Pass at an Avenged Sevenfold concert (no, not because I had a backstage pass… bummer…), so it’s only fitting that they were the original inspiration for Sinners. Once I got writing, I deviated from the real life band, especially personality-wise, as the fictional characters became more “real” to me than real-life rock stars, but yes, they were the original inspiration. Especially, Synyster Gates, M. Shadows and Zacky Vengeance. Yum-to-the-um.

Nom, nom...tattoos, piercings, dark clothes, cool hair, AND they rock! *drool*

You have so much detailed information in these books from song composition to performance so I have to ask, are you musically inclined? I’ve tried playing bass guitar and while I can do it…it’s boring trying to play by yourself (and y’all can stop snickering!).

I wanted to be a rock star when I was a teenager. I picked up the guitar, learned to play Stairway to Heaven and realized my fingers are too short and stubby to ever be any good at it. I was the top ranked flutist in my junior high band (we had 40 flutes, talk about a band heavy on upper registers) and also played piccolo. Maybe I should have followed in Jethro Tull’s footsteps. The detail in the books comes from being a life-long fan of rock music. I’ve followed it since I was a child. If you write what you’re passionate about, I’ve hit the mother lode.

Who’s your favorite band? Who have you seen in concert more than twice?

Well, that depends. Do you want to know my current favorite band, or my favorite band of all time or my favorite band based on my record collection? Currently, I’m loving Bullet for My Valentine. Can’t get enough of Avenged Sevenfold and have more of their songs on my iPod than any other band. I’d say my favorite band of all time is Guns ‘n’ Roses. Though I had massive love for dozens of bands in the 80s, they’re the ones who have stuck with me the most over time. I’ve seen sever bands in concert more than twice. Avenged Sevenfold takes the prize with 6 times. Papa Roach 4 times. Disturbed 3 times. The other thirty or so bands I’ve only seen once or twice.

The Sinners are hot…very hot. Who’s your favorite band member? I have to pick Jace because I’ve always had this thing for bass players…gr-owl. But Brian, Trey, Sed, and Eric are very, very close seconds. Okay, that isn’t entirely true…they’re all so hot, I couldn’t pick if I had a choice. Maybe one for Monday, one for Tuesday, etc.

I honestly love them all. I don’t have a favorite.

Are you planning a book for each band member? What about side characters like the luscious Dare and Max?

I’m currently working on the rest of the Sinners books and I would love to do a spin-off of Exodus End (with Dare, Max, Logan and Steve) when I finish the Sinners on Tour series. You can never have too many hot rock stars.

You’re given the opportunity to put together a dream band filled with your favorite musicians, living or dead. Who do you choose and why?

I’m dedicating each novel in the Sinners on Tour series to a different rock musician that has died before his time. I’m not sure what they would sound like all together, but I’ll go with them. Guitarists: Dimebag Darrell Abbot (Pantera) and Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne); Vocalist: Kurt Cobain (Nirvana); Bassist: Cliff Burton (Metallica); and Drummer: James “The Rev” Sullivan (Avenged Sevenfold)

And just because I’m nosy…what was your road to publication like?

I’ve been writing fiction for about 20 years. I started with contemporary category romance and have also written fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, scientific thrillers, and I’m sure there are other things I’m forgetting. I queried all of them and have the requisite rejection letters to prove it. Backstage Pass was my first erotic romance novel. The second publisher I queried bought it and the entire series. I was stunned.

Now to appease my What’s Playing Wednesday schedule, what song has a similar flavor to the Sinners’ music?

Avenged Sevenfold – Unholy Confessions

Just have to say…kick ass! This is one band I have to see in concert!

Olivia, thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I hope to have you by again when your next book comes out…I know, I’m such a fangirl 😉

I’d love to visit again. Thanks for having me!
