Hey Stranger

Um, so it feels like forever since I blogged. For some reason, I just can’t seem to come up with anything interesting to write about in terms of me.

Are y’all still here? If so, thank you so much! How’s life been treating y’all?

You know how things just sort of go crazy. You have a set plan in place, a goal in mind that you’re bound and determined to follow and then BLAM! fate throws you a curveball? That’s what it’s been like for me. After the release of Touched by Lightning, I’ve been dodging curveball after curveball. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been ogling sexy men over on Facebook because y’all know that’ll happen no matter what.

But for about three months my creative energy was gone. Oh I tried to write, tried to pretend I was going to have a story finished by April and another finished in May. I even had a spreadsheet with all of my ideas and schedules planned out. Then real life intruded, bold and brash, bullying my muse. Between the EDJ and family crises, my muse was whimpering like a whipped puppy.

Things aren’t better, but they aren’t worse either. I’m starting to finally (slowly) get a handle on things. None of those things that’ve been holding me back have gone away. If anything, they’ve gone from schoolyard bullies to massive giants stomping all over everything, but my muse is fighting back. She wants to write stories with happy endings (and not just of the sexual kind heh). She wants to exert a little control over something even if it’s an imaginary world.

So saying that, I’ve just finished a short story for an upcoming box set called Brought to His Knees. I’m going into this awesome undertaking with ten other authors: A.M. Griffin, Amy Ruttan, Anya Richard, Sabrina York, Sayde Grace, Jennifer Kacey, Felice Fox, Cynthia d’Alba, Tina Donahue and Lynne Silver. I have to say, it’s pretty amazing what eleven determined authors can accomplish and I really think this box set will have something for everyone’s tastes. My contribution to this set is the next story in my Southern Sin series. Don’t worry, we’ll be having a huge book cover reveal and prizes and… you know what? How about y’all follow our Facebook page to find out what’s going on next? We’re having takeovers, giveaways, you name it and we have it 😉

Brought To His Knees

And starting soon, possibly even today (shocker!) I plan to start a series that’s been driving me insane for the last two months. Maybe it has to do with all of the stress that’s built up since January, but I’m going dark and grim with this new series. Oh don’t worry, I still plan to write my shifters in the Cajun Heat series and stories in my Grand Terre world, but a writer’s got to write where the muse allows her, right? 😉

I’m going to try a lot harder to blog more often, but I’m not promising anything because when I do… 😉

So how about y’all? How has everyone been?

Rock My World

On the Sixth Day of Pre-Release the author gave to me…

…Fusion music! The inspiration for some of the tunes mentioned in the Unveiled Seductions series, including book four, which is being released on December 4, 2013.

Anya Cover From the first time I envisioned the character of Xbal Montegro, jaguar god, sex magic practitioner and hero of Jaguar in the Sun, I knew he was going to be a music promoter. It fit with the story line since the Midnight Café, setting of the series, had branched out from tattooing to become a hangout spot, complete with stage shows. Besides, I loved the idea of the kinds of fusion music you might find beyond the Veil, a place where old gods, fey, weres, vamps and all kinds of other characters of myth and lore live.

The first mention I made of music in the series was a Vamp-Ska band… and I had a gypsy-ska song my daughter had introduced me to years before as the inspiration. Neither of us could remember exactly which song it was (might have been Coffee, God and Cigarettes by Mischief Brew, but I seem to remember more of a ska beat to the song) so I went looking on YouTube to see if I could find it. Of course, I found something even better (and a new favorite group) in Gogol Bordello. Here’s sort of what I had in mind when I dreamed up Vamp-Ska, although Gogol Bordello is usually described as Gypsy Punk:

In Jaguar in the Sun the heroine, Cassie, goes to Xbal’s office to proposition him and there’s a band in the lobby, jamming. This is the description of what she hears:

Immediately she was bombarded by a blast of sound coming from a group of people lounging in the reception area, each one with an instrument in hand. This was music unlike any she’d heard before, with a driving, almost discordant backbeat provided by a couple of guys, one with a pair of Congo drums, the other with what looked like a plastic tub. Above it was overlaid the wail of a bagpipe and the counter-beat of a bass guitar. And flitting through it all were the high, sweet notes of a wind instrument—a piccolo by the sound of it—diving and climbing between the other sounds, weaving them all together into something magical and strangely compelling. Enchanted, she paused in the vestibule and let the door swing shut as the music washed over her, somehow soothing her nervousness and, at the same time, heightening her anticipation.

There are a number of really good Celtic fusion groups and sounds, but being attracted to the sounds of Africa, this fusion of Celtic and Gwana music really appealed to me:

I love all kinds of music, as you might have figured, so this has been so much fun to dream up and research. I’m already cruising YouTube looking for the next inspiration! Tomorrow on the Seventh Day of Pre-Release, I’ll be at Amy Ruttan’s blog talking about my idea of where the old gods go when they disappear from our world. I bet you can guess where that is!

Book four in the Unveiled Seductions series.

Cassandra Solinar has a bucket list and jaguar god Xbal Montegro is on it. About to undergo an essential rite she won’t survive, she wants to wring every ounce of pleasure out of the time left. Including discovering if Xbal’s sex magic technique is as good as rumored.

It’s no hardship for Xbal to accept Cassandra’s invitation for one erotic encounter, but far more difficult to let her go once he gets a taste of the explosive passion between them. Now he’s determined to hold on to her, no matter what.

Cassie can’t tell Xbal the truth about what she’s about to do. It’s illegal, but without her death the entire world will perish. It’s a job she’s been preparing for from birth, but the loss will be greater now. For in Xbal she finds a soul-deep connection she doesn’t want to lose, and the one thing she made a point of not putting on her bucket list—love.

Post 1,000 Woo-Hoo

Here it is! The 1000th post on my blog.

Seems like it should be more impressive than that, doesn’t it? Hm. Well, I can’t exactly give y’all fireworks and mostly naked men dancing around, but I do have a giveaway scheduled.

First though, let me just say that it’s been a wild ride. Blogging isn’t all that easy when you’ve been doing it a while because you don’t want to start regurgitating posts. Which I think I’ve done a few times. I’ve blogged about writing, getting through the rejection process, getting an agent and losing an agent. I’ve blogged about sexy men. Lots and lots of sexy men. I’ve even interviewed several of them. By the way those were some of my most visited posts. I also blogged about life in south Louisiana, shared some Cajun French with y’all. That’s the set of second most viewed posts. Yup, seems everyone is curious about how to pronounce things or what have you.

Secondly, I have the best friends ever. The writing community is amazing. Simply amazing. I’ve met a lot of wonderful people on my road to publication, through the rocky pass of being a published writer and everything in between. If you ever embark on this same wild ride, be sure to surround yourself with people who will tell you like it is, but do it with their shoulder and a bottle of booze handy, who won’t run you down to make themselves feel better, and who’ll understand what you mean when you start talking about the voices in your head talking to you while you’re taking a shower and not think you’re insane.

So saying all that…here’s the giveaway. I have several of these awesome people offering up prizes. Be sure to enter and tell your friends.
a Rafflecopter giveaway

And because it’s What’s Playing Wednesday…I just gotta share this song with y’all. Because it says everything. Let’s get this party started!

Winners

Well, well, we made it through Monday mostly unscathed. At least I think we did. I so overslept today and I did it in an awkward position which means I’m limping since my hip hurts like the Dickens. And if you’ve ever read Dickens, you’ll understand why it hurts. No offense to you Dickens lovers…but really? Ouch.

As most of y’all know, we had a big blog hop going on. Yup, the Big Cocks & Broomsticks Blog Hop to celebrate Halloween, the Cabal of Hotness and just being goofy. We chose our winners and they’ve been mailed. Now to wait  for their responses which will probably be “Yippee skippy!” or something like that.

The Grand Prize ($100 gc to Amazon or Barnes & Noble) goes to Val Denis.

Second place ($50 gc to Amazon or B&N) goes to Joey Ross.

Third place ($25 gc to Amazon or B&N) goes to Shelley Monro.

First off, we had so much fun with this hop and it’s always a pleasure to meet so many new people! Really it is. Secondly, I hope most of everyone sticks around because with the Cabal of Hotness, there’s no telling what we’ll come up with next. Honestly, I don’t even know what we’re doing next…mostly because those bitches are crazy. Y’all hear?

Oh! And I had a giveaway here on my blog as well. Random.org chose…

Jasmyn Novachek as the winner of the Danica Avet fleece blanket! Yay!

So glad everyone participated in the giveaway and if you’re looking for more goodies to win, be sure to “like” me on Facebook. I hold monthly giveaways known as Fan Appreciation Giveaways. This month I’m giving away gift cards to help with holiday shopping.

Oh and in case I haven’t mentioned it, I’m also holding a giveaway here on the blog when I hit my 1,000 blog post! I have prizes from a large group of writers who are most awesome. Among a few,  you can expect to win books from Cynthia Eden, Lea Barrymire, A.M. Griffin, Lucy Felthouse, Cara Carnes, Cassandra Carr, Cristal Ryder, Amy Ruttan, Anya Richards, Denise Tompkins, Kari Gregg, um…Sky Robinson, Piper Trace, swag and prizes from Jillian Chantal, Tara Nina and gosh, there are even more authors who I’m sorry to say I forget at the moment. Needless to say it’s a cornucopia of romance! Yay! So look for that giveaway to happen…um, next week most likely. I’ll start the actual countdown to the 1,000 blog post tomorrow.

Peace out!

A woman’s love could imprison his heart.

Prince Ryllio once lived so charmed a life, even he began to believe nothing bad could touch him. Then a moment’s indiscretion brought Queen Mab’s wrath raining down, encasing him in stone.

Hundreds of years later, he is losing hope that anyone will find him, much less counter the spell. Until a beautiful young woman wanders into his hidden glade to privately discover the pleasures of her own body. Her sensual innocence reignites his acute longing for freedom.
Lured into the old forest by an irresistible impulse, Myrina finds intimate communion with Ryllio’s imprisoned spirit. His whispered guidance weaves an erotic spell, rousing her to undreamed heights of ecstasy.
The intertwining of their minds comes at a devastating price. As each encounter intensifies, Myrina falls in love with a man she can never touch. And Ryllio realizes he must give up the last vestiges of his humanity—or condemn her to a life devoid of a flesh-and-blood lover…

Living this mostly timeless existence had been the norm, until today.

Now, desperation forced the counting not of minutes but of seconds since the black-haired nymph had left the glade.

She had entered as though in a dream—a little smile tipping the edges of her full pink lips, the motion of her hands languid and graceful as she doffed her cloak. Beneath a small white cap, edged with lace, lay coils of midnight-dark hair, small tendrils escaping in ringlets to play around her face. Heavy-lidded eyes of sparkling blue seemed to look right at him, and a blush of rosy colour stained from throat to softly rounded cheeks.

Ryllio had felt her presence, her beauty, like the pull of a rope anchored to his soul. As she stopped before where he knelt, and reached to unbutton her jacket, the pounding echo of his heart shook his stony prison, and rushed in his ears.

The need to touch her, learn who she was, was so overwhelming he forgot the spell holding him in place—tried to reach for her although it were impossible. Straining, he imagined touching her face, the sensation of her peachy skin beneath his fingers. When she arched her face skyward, raising her hands to her cheeks, her neck, Ryllio knew she could hear his thoughts, his wishes, although he knew not how.

Oh, the joy of it! The desire! Watching the innocent exploration, her sweet face tight and flushed with need, and knowing she could sense all he desired made Ryllio feel alive, truly human for the first time since his punishment began.

Her small breasts were sensitive. It was obvious from the way simply touching them excited her, took her close to the apex of passion. His yearning to enhance her pleasure led him further and further, until he imagined her naked beneath him, thighs open, revealing her most secret place to his avid gaze. Shuddering, her little hand crept beneath her skirts and he pictured himself lifting her hips, covering her delicious wet flesh with his mouth.

The sound of her release was sweet torture—the sight of her falling back, writhing among the flowers, crying out again and again, brought him to a pitch of need never felt before.

Book three in the Unveiled Seductions series.

Talathion Frostbane was tasked with saving his people and took on the responsibility unflinchingly. Yet all it takes to throw his entire existence into chaos is one encounter with the wyvern-shifter he spurned two hundred years before. The passion between them is as strong as ever, but there’s no escaping the expectations of the clan. And giving in to the all-consuming desire for the dragonkin would have devastating consequences.

When Hervé Cinq à Sept travels to the Fey city of Leaich, searching for answers after someone tries to kill him, what he finds rocks his world in a variety of ways and leads him down a path of inescapable hunger. As he finds himself on his knees, lost in desperate need and heading for heartbreak, he realizes why, as a species, the dragonkin no longer believe in love. It’s so easy to lose everything—pride, independence, control—when the one you want to claim can never be yours.

Excerpt:

The wyvern had always been handsome. As a young dragon just past his majority he’d shown evidence of the man he’d become. But then his beauty was that of youth—fresh, brash and still somewhat unformed. Now, in the prime of his life, he was no longer beautiful but absolutely, completely magnificent. Time had scourged all softness from his face and left it fierce and powerful with a calm strength Talathion found compelling. His shoulders seemed broader, his chest and arms more muscular, another sign of the changes maturity had wrought. The tattoos above his ear and peeking out from beneath the collar of his black shirt gave him an aura of danger, of being a man unafraid to stand out.

Just looking at him gave Talathion a shock of excitement, yet it was the wyvern’s eyes, their expression, he most wanted to see. From the moment they’d met, from the very first time he’d looked into that emerald gaze, it had haunted him. Sometimes those eyes danced with laughter, at other times they were serious or coolly arrogant, but no matter the expression they were always enthralling. And when the eyelids drooped, veiling but not concealing the flash of dragonfire, the unmistakable sexual energy surrounding Hervé flared hot and wild…

Talathion closed his eyes, thankful Hervé’s attention had been focused on whatever he was doing. Their time together had been so long ago it had no bearing on the present. And undoubtedly his reminiscences had been altered by the vagaries of memory.

I can’t let old longings deflect me from what needs to be done. I have to get back to Leaich.

Yet just that quick glance at the man who’d stolen his heart at a time when he could least afford to give it made his flesh tingle, the muscles beneath grow taut and hot. A sudden, heightened awareness of his nakedness beneath the covers made his fingers clench into fists. He tried to ignore the pressure building in his groin, but was glad of the quilt bunched across his lap as his cock stirred and began to rise.

“So, are you hungry?”

In ways I don’t dare admit to.

The Hilarity Continues

Just a quick note to announce that today the Cabal of Hotness received its covers for the next three volumes of the Fondled and Gobbled anthologies.

Nope, you didn’t read that wrong! We have three more volumes coming out with four gut busting stories in each. We’ve even added three more authors to the anthologies, bringing in Kinky Hotness Cara Carnes, Shy Hotness Sky Robinson and Big Daddy Hotness himself, Justin Whitfield!

First up is Fondled and Gobbled: Back for More with funny women, Lea Barrymire, Cara Carnes, Cassandra Carr, and A.M. Griffin:

fandgbackformore_msr

Next up is Fondle and Gobbled: One More Slurp featuring stories by me, Sasha Devlin, Anya Richards and Sky Robinson:

fandgonemoreslurp_msr

And last, but not least is Fondled and Gobbled: Messier Than Ever with stories by Amy Ruttan, Cristal Ryder, Piper Trace and Justin Whitfield:fandgmessierthanever_msr

There’s a licking theme going on…or would that be a tongue theme? Heh. Either way the covers really reflect the humor of the stories as well as the eroticism because despite them being funny, they’re hawt! Kind of like us!

Before you leave, don’t forget there are three giveaways going on right now. The What is Danica thinking? giveaway ends tonight. The Big Cocks and Shamrocks Blog Hop ends on Sunday and my Scavenger Hunt for Dean’s List ends next week. Be sure to get your chances to win swag, books and naughty stuff. Everyone loves naughty stuff, don’t they?

Oh! And in case I forget, tomorrow I have another interview…rar, one I think everyone will definitely appreciate. *waggles her eyebrows*

Fondled and Gobbled: Is Your Jaw Tired Yet?

So sorry, I couldn’t resist that title. *ponders getting the Cabal to agree to adding that to our long list of anthology titles*

It’s been a week since the Cabal officially began to fondle and gobble the masses and they’ve spoken:
Terri with Night Owl Reviews gave Fondled and Gobbled: Someone Had To Do It 4.5/5.0 stars “Five fantastic authors have taken scenes and made them spoofs.  This twist on current romance may have you laughing hysterically.  Each story is totally unique and has it’s own unique twist but all end with a happy ending though some are somewhat strange.  No matter what type of romance you like, read this one.”

Nikki with Close Encounters with the Night Kind gave Fondled and Gobbled: Someone Had To It 5/5 spiders. “All in all this was an incredibly enjoyable and entertaining read!  Even the hot parts had humor in them!  These ladies have tapped into something fresh, and I can’t wait for more!!  One taste was not enough.  I definitely can’t wait to gobble up the next one!!  Great Read!!”

And then there’s what we’re doing next. We’re some busy ladies, I tell you!
Like, today we’re over at Patricia Macia’s blog with character interviews. This is just a little peek at the insanity we brought. *cough*

Q: Please introduce yourselves and give me a two sentence synopsis of your story.

Lucius: *looks around at all the women and lifts his chin* I’m Lucius, and I’m not sure what the fuss is all about. I just tried to have a quiet sneak-fuck and ended up trussed like a turkey, being assaulted. *gets a faraway look in his eyes* Never realized how much fun that could be…
Steele: I’m Steele Ana. I was working in a dead end job, but then Grey Christian came in and we fell instantly in love! He promptly insisted I move into his awesome penthouse in Seattle, and of course I said yes!
Missy: *tapping the screen* Can you guys hear me? Yes? Good. I’m Missy. *waving* Um, I’m on Oz’s ship someplace in the next galaxy over from the Milky Way. We’re heading to his planet, I guess. Anyway, after he took me from Earth I’m not too worried about where we’re going. He’s hunky, I was single… enough said, right?
Holly: *Pauses in the middle of flipping through Big Toys for Big O’s magazine* What’s there to talk about? I like sex. I like orgasms even more. My man, Caid Kincaid gives me what I need. Sort of. *slouches in her chair* Most of the time. *Slouches more* He’s really trying. *Glares at Lucius* Ain’t fair how some people get all the luck. *Mutters something about cock enlargement devices*
Emily: Hi! First off, thanks for having me. I’m Emily Justasalad, and I’m…well, I’m just a regular girl, so all this attention is taking me a little time to get used to. My story is really one about triumph and self-discovery–you know, learning to love yourself! Oh yeah, and I came to this realization by having an all-out, five-hot-men-on-one-Emily, Broadshaft Brothers orgy on my kitchen table. It might not work for everyone, but it was certainly therapeutic for me.

This is where we’ll be next week:
February 17 – NAC Blog
* Naughty Hotness
February 18 – NAC Blog
* Bootay Hotness
February 19 – Mari Carr’s Blog
February 19 – Coffee Time Romance Chat (9p.m. EST)

February 20 – NAC Blog
*Chocolate Hotness
February 21 – NAC Blog
* Honey Hotness
February 24 – NAC Blog
* Glacial Hotness

And on February 22, the second volume in the anthology, Fondled and Gobbled: Going Back for Seconds will be unleashed on the world! Bwahaha!
goingbackforseconds_msr

The virgin whose carefully planned hymen removal doesn’t work out the way romance novels told her it would. A busty broad doing what she can to get over her penis anxiety—assisted by a cadre of male strippers. A not-so-bright (and not so “big”) alien who comes to claim his life-mate, and the Earth girl who wants to be claimed at all costs. A cursed, mute shapeshifter who needs to pop his cherry with his unsuspecting fated mate…

If you’re looking for the perfect romance with the perfect hero and heroine—this isn’t it! This series of spoofs, parodies and just-for-fun take-offs is for longtime, hard-core romance readers able to laugh at the clichés, purple prose and “suspend your disbelief” plot devices that haunt our beloved favorite genre.

DJ Anya in the House

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m a closet romantic. Actually, go ahead. No one who knows me will believe you anyway. I scoff at flowers (they should be growing on bushes, not shedding sad petals on my table), don’t fuss at my husband to buy me jewellery (mostly because the stuff I like costs damn-hell-WHOA money and, well, I’m cheap), and would rather eat a nice steak than bother dressing up to go to a fancy-schmancy restaurant.

Chocolate, however, is always welcome. Doesn’t have to come in a fancy box with a bow though. Sometimes any old Cadbury bar will do!

The upshot of it all is, I don’t make playlists for my books. I often write in silence or, if I want background music, I put on my reggae playlist because I know all the songs so well I can sing them and still think at the same time.

But sometimes, just sometimes, a book I’m writing will “adopt” a song, and those are almost invariably sappy. What the hell’s up with that? It’s never Born to be Wild or Bringing Sexy Back. It’s Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, or Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen. Love songs, for frak’s sake. The last book I wrote, which my editor has just accepted (YEAH!), insisted Rod Stewart’s Broken Arrow was its song…with a side order of The One by Elton John. Oy vey.

At this point I should probably post a video by RDX (a very…e-hem…suggestive Caribbean group) just to get my street-cred back. But I happen to love the book, tentatively titled Dragon’s Claim, which will be book three in my Unveiled Seductions series, and Elton just seems appropriate for the day before Valentine’s Day, here’s The One.
