That Old Monday Feeling

I had grand plans this weekend. I love how I think “I’ll just work on Saturday, knock out some of the things I’ve been putting off, go grocery shopping after, read over my WIP and then write the rest of the weekend!” and really expect it to happen.

You know what really happened this weekend? I worked on Saturday and read over my WIP. That’s it. I didn’t go grocery shopping the way I’ve been doing every weekend for years. I was too tired and it was too hot. Saturday and Sunday. No, okay Sunday I was too tired to go and slept most of the day. So much for writing, huh? But I did think about my story a lot and realized I’m not so far from finished as I thought.

This just means I have a whole week to get myself in order before I leave for RomantiCon. Thinking about everything I have to do in order to be fully prepared makes me cringe. I have a box of things to pack and ship out before I leave so I don’t have to stuff my luggage, people to contact about taking care of my girls while I’m gone, food to throw away so it doesn’t spoil…what else? I’m sure there are a million things left to do. Hopefully I won’t forget any of them.

So exciting, don’t you think? *snort* Really, the life of a writer isn’t as exciting as they made it seem in Jewel of the Nile or Romancing the Stone.

What’d y’all do this weekend? I lost in both of my fantasy football leagues, by the way. This doesn’t exactly add to Danica’s happy Monday feeling.

Oh and in case you didn’t realize, I’m holding a Fan Appreciation Giveaway every month on my Facebook fan page. This month the prize is a Danica Avet T-shirt. If I hit 500 likes, I’ll pick two winners. Please share the page with your friends and lets hit 500 before the end of the day today when I draw the winner!

James Magnussen Kicks Off the Weekend

It’s time for the weekend. Oh yeah! I totally said that like Macho Man Randy Savage. That’s how ready I am for the weekend. Fridays are the best, aren’t they? And what makes this Friday even better? I have a sexy man to share with y’all.

James 1

Before I get to the meat of this post (no pun intended), just a reminder that if you haven’t entered the Six-Pack Stud-a-Thon giveaway, you still have time to do so. There are lots of prizes to win as well as some right here on this blog! I hope y’all have had fun checking out all the handsome men provided by the hop. I know I have!

James 2

And I actually have one of those men here today. I asked James Magnussen what song gets him in the mood for the weekend. This is what he had to say:

Oh well it’s definitely gonna be “Elements” by Lindsey Sterling. She is such a sexy little firecracker and an incredible violinist can’t help but be drawn into her beautiful melodies and sexy movements. Really gets my blood red hot.

Sexy or what? Oh and if you want to follow James, you can find him on Facebook here or on Instagram (james_d_magnussen).

And one more because who can resist?

Rockin’ the Rose Tattoo

I actually don’t have a rose tattoo. It was never an image I wanted, but yes, I do have tattoos and I want more. Isn’t that always the way of things? There’s something almost hypnotic about being under the needle. Yeah, I’m aware that to non-tattooed people it sounds weird, but there it is.

Even better, tattoos are monuments set into skin, art that tells the story of a person’s life. It could be something as simple as a silly Disney character you had done when you were drunk to a well-thought out tattoo in memory of a lost one. They tell stories, they show who you are and what you’ve done. I have three and I remember each one. They aren’t memorial tattoos, but abstracts but I remember the person I was when I got each one.

The first was my big dare in college. The second was after college when I also got my tongue pierced. It’s actually my favorite tattoo of all. The third was done about 7 years ago. I got it with a friend who was getting her first. I have more planned and as soon as I can find the money, I’ll get them done.

And Dropkick Murphys wrote a song about tattoos, what they mean to the person who has them. Yes, I know there are people out there who regret their ink, but for the most part I think most people look back at them to remember that brief freeze frame in time. At least I do. I think back to the kid I was, the person I was growing into and I think of them fondly.

So here’s “Rose Tattoo” by Dropkick Murphys. It’s a great song and one I have to sing along with everytime.

Let Your Hair Down

Happy Friday! Woo-hoo!! Is anyone else doing the happy dance like me? If not, I’ll do it for you. I can’t believe how intense this week has been, but I’m ready for it to end already.

Of course because it’s the start of the weekend, I have to share my plans. Because you must have a plan for the next two days even if it looks like this:

1. Sleep
2. Wake up
3. Shower
4. Go back to sleep

Hey, I’ve had weekends like that. This weekend though, I’m going to continue chugging away at my superhero story. I’m sooo close. Like this close -><- to finishing it and sending  it off to be used and abused by my beta readers and CPs. I think it’s good. Oh man, is it good. Probably the most painfully dark thing I’ve ever written, but sometimes when I write stories like that, I leave a lot of important stuff out. You know, like things other than the intense emotion I want to convey. Like…”Is this position even possible? Because I don’t think it is…”

Yeah, that’s why we all need people to read our stuff before we send it anywhere near an editor or agent.

Oh and I’m mailing stuff. A lot of stuff. Swag for RomantiCon, swag for a basket, swag, swag, swag. If you want some Romance Trading Cards, drop me an email at danica(dot)avet(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll send you some of my RTCs before they go in the box to RomantiCon. For the Ellora’s Cave conference, I have more shot glasses, compact mirrors and some brand new swag that are shammy coasters. They’re coasters that can also be used as shammys to absorb spills. I thought it was a cool idea and I hope readers like them as well. I’d offer to send those but I had them all shipped directly to Ellora’s Cave. If I have any left from the convention, I’ll let y’all know.

Did I mention football? Yeah, doing that too. Although after that last game, I might have to rethink watching. I’m not sure my heart can take it. *shudders*

Anyway, it’s Friday. Y’all don’t want to hear about my aches and pains and plans for the weekend, you want to get in the mood for your own fun, right? How about some 80s rock inspired music? You the kind I’m talking about. It makes you pretend you can hit falsetto notes and all you manage to do is sound like a dying cat. Yeah, I’m talking about The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”.

Great earworm for Friday, don’t you think?

In The Mood…

Ohmmm. I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for today. I must’ve blown a circuit or something on Saturday with my big writing day because ever since I’ve been dragging ass. I want to sleep. In fact, sleep is like the sexiest thing in the world to me right now. Like, if Gerard Butler, M. Shadows or Vin Diesel were to say, “Danica, would you like to come with me to my secret hideaway and so I can shower you with more pleasure than you could possibly handle?”

My response would be, “Eh, is there a comfy bed?”

Okay, maybe not. Cause those men are sexy! I’d probably latch onto them like Velcro and never let them go. “But we can be together forever! Oh look, it’s Vin/M. Shadows/Gerard.” (Because I can be fickle.)

Anyway, sleep sounds delicious. Except I keep having weird dreams. I suppose with RomantiCon coming up, my brain is trying to get me ready for it or something because I’ve had several dreams about the conference, or a conference, then more recently I’ve dreamed about doing squats. I’m talking about a gazillion squats. Is it any wonder I’m so tired when I wake up? I’m working out in my dreams!

So yeah, we need some music about dreams or sleeping or something. *thinks* Several songs came to mind, but they were all slow and depressing. So I chose this:

I do enjoy Stone Sour. A lot. And the title is fitting, isn’t it?

Hope y’all are sleeping more than I am!

Life got in the way, and after the birth of her second child, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a romance author.

Excerpt:

Damn. What’ve I done?

Dr. Charlotte James had been watching the arrivals board in the Iqaluit airport for some time. She was so focused on arrivals she didn’t even notice the people coming and going around her. A watched pot never boiled, or so the old saying went, but she couldn’t help it. This was probably the longest she’d ever stood still. In her job there was no time to stand still. In fact, she hated it. She could be doing so many other things. Filing, for instance.

Not that she particularly liked filing. She preferred her organized chaos. However, there were a ton of files on her desk, and Rosie had been pestering her for a week to put them away. Instead, she was waiting here for his flight to arrive.

“Flight 207 from Ottawa now arriving at gate three.”

The past, when it came to Dr. Quinn Devlyn, was where it needed to be: firmly locked away. She’d moved on and she had no doubt his life had, too.

He was, after all, at the top in his chosen specialty, and she was right where she’d always wanted to be.

This time Quinn Devlyn wouldn’t blindside her or suck her into some crazy off-kilter distracting, albeit passionate, love affair.

No, siree.

Her life was good. Not perfect but, then, whose was? Charlotte was happy. Courage.

She spun around and saw the plane taxi in on the small airstrip, blending in with the stark, white landscape of Canada’s High Arctic. The only color out there was the brightly painted houses that dotted the landscape. Her pulse thundered between her ears.

He’s here.

The pit of Charlotte’s stomach dropped to her knees. No. Scratch that. Make it the soles of her feet. Not since her MCATs had she felt this way, as though she was perpetually on the verge of hurling.

She was seriously beginning to doubt her sanity in bringing her ex-fiance up to Cape Recluse. It wasn’t a place where she could avoid him easily. He’d be constantly underfoot and she was dreading every moment of it. Would she be able to resist him? The only time she had resisted him had been when he’d left. When their relationship had ended, she’d never wanted to see him again, but his presence here now was a price she was willing to pay to help out her friend. Get a grip on yourself.

A blast of cold air shook her from her reverie. Her gaze focused on the tinted windows, watching the passengers head across the tarmac to the warmth of the bright yellow airport building. Immediately she picked Quinn’s form out of the group of passengers.

Tall and broad, even though he was huddled down under his collar against the cold. Just the sight of him made her heart beat a little bit faster, her cheeks heat and the butterflies in her stomach go crazy. Her pulse thundered between her ears like a marching band. She hadn’t seen him in five years–not since he’d walked out on her–but he was making her feel like a giddy teenager again.

Don’t let him affect you like this, Charlotte chastised herself. She’d moved on with her life. The wound he’d left in her heart had finally healed.

The double doors opened and he stepped into the airport, moving to the side to let more people in from the frigid cold. He set down his luggage and unwound his scarf.

Damn, he still looks as good as ever. Charlotte had been kind of hoping Quinn’s fast, career-driven lifestyle would’ve caught up with and aged him, but he looked as sexy and charming as ever.

Even from a few feet away she could see there was a bit of gray around his sandy-brown temples, but it suited him. Made him look more dashing and debonair.

Release Day Fun

How can a Monday be fun? Well…really, it’s not supposed to be, but today is the release of my newest Crushes to Cravings Tale, Playing Doctor.  It’s not, contrary to belief, about a doctor, but about two people who played together as kids and as nature would have it, became romantically involved until they’re torn apart by cruelty. The story bugged me for weeks until finally I put my big project on the side and worked on it. Then it just flew out of my brain and onto paper.

Playing Doctor AReElijah “Eli” Tucker loved Dixie Champagne from the time they were young only to have his world ripped apart by a betrayal that cut deep. Vowing to have his vengeance on her, he bided his time until she returned to town. It took ten years but seeing her again revives feelings he thought long dead and it takes all of his considerable willpower to exact his revenge. On the woman he still loves even now.

Dixie Champagne worked hard to keep her reputation clean, to break the mold her mother created and she did it by leaving Grand Terre. Going back home means possibly seeing her one-time childhood sweetheart again, but she’ll risk it to help her sister. What she didn’t expect was to have dinner with Eli or that she’d end up having the most erotic experience of her life, only to have him destroy her afterwards.

These star-crossed lovers will have to discover the truth of their past to have a future together.

You can pick Playing Doctor (A Crushes to Cravings Tale 2) up at Amazon, ARe and Smashwords.

And that’s not all the excitement going on. The Loving Dangerously Blog Hop is now over and the winner has been picked. I had a giveaway on my blog as well and that winner is… strawberryrosered. I’ve offered up reader’s choice of backlist in this giveaway and Strawberryrosered will get to pick what book she’d like to win. I want to thank everyone who participated in the hop and remind you of the other two hops coming up. Just peek over at the sidebar at the Six-Pack Stud-a-thon Blog hop starting next week and the Big Cocks and Broomsticks Blog Hop starting in October. There are lots more prizes to win!

Finally, the weekend was a blast. Sort of. Wrote 8200 words on my big project on Saturday, drank more coffee than I should have and then nearly had a heart attack during the Saints game. I should’ve known it was going to be bad when I developed a horrible case of heart burn earlier yesterday that didn’t go away. Nope. It just got worse as the game progressed until I swore I was going to die by the last 5 seconds of the game. I survived though, so obviously I’m in decent health.

Bless you boys! You never allow us to have a dull game.

What did you do this weekend?
