2012 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 63,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report.

Isn’t that cool? I had more views than Jay-Z did at a single concert! Okay, that doesn’t sound as impressive as I thought it would.

2012 was a good and bad year in many ways. In February, my agent and I parted ways after having difficulties selling Immortal Love. She did her absolute best, but New York wasn’t looking for sassy half-immortals.

From February to June, I went on a book writing binge, submitting Immortal Love to Evernight Publishing as well as a short story for their Keyboards and Kink Anthology. I sold You Bet Your Banshee to Siren and got bumped up to a hotter book level because of my stripping banshee. I wrote Primal Song in February, attended the Silken Sands Conference in March, got a request for work from Grace Bradley with Ellora’s Cave and had a sign contract by June.

Thus began my strange induction into the wild, erotic world of Ellora’s Cave. After Primal Song came out in August (amidst several trips to the hospital because of kidney stones for me), Primal Design came out in September and football season really kicked off. I’ve figured out (after three years of being a “serious” writer) that I can’t write during football season. I’m too engrossed in the games to pay attention. So I have to write a lot during the off-season.

I attended RomantiCon in October and had more fun than I ever have at any conference, no offense to anyone or their wonderful conferences. But there were half-naked cover models at this conferences and half-naked, muscular men trump everything else except for completely naked, muscular men. Just sayin’.

It was at this conference that I met some very interesting people. I went to the Pro Football Hall of Fame with Christine d’Abo, met Frances Stockton, Cara McKenna, J.K. Coi, had my hand on Caveman Nick’s rock hard ass, hooked my fingers in Caveman Georgio’s pants, got spanked by Caveman Georgio and spent several days cleaning up drool.

This is also where I met Lea Barrymire, A.M. Griffin, Cara Carnes, Piper Trace, Sasha Devlin, Cassandra Carr, Sky Robinson and Cristal Ryder. We spent a lot of time together, laughing (in my case dancing until I hurt), talking about spoofing erotic romance and later, we’d start the Cabal of Hotness. By the way, we’re kicking off our formal introduction to the world today. You should stop by to find out what you can about us before we take everything over starting January 2. Hint, we’re holding a giveaway in January.

I’ve met a lot of people in my writing career, some of them soul mates from the moment I speak with them, some of them frightened me (I’m not going to talk about her but she held me captive at my very first conference telling me about her soon-to-be-written eight book series), but for the most part, the people I’ve met in 2012 have helped push me to push my limits.

Sure, I’ve discovered I have a very dirty mouth. Orbitz would love me. But I’m okay with that. I enjoy what I write. I enjoy the person I’ve grown into. 2012 saw me becoming more confident in myself as a woman, as a writer and as a human being. I’m not quite as intense that I’ll start carrying a razor blade in my cheek to “cut a bitch”, but I’m not far from being Honey Badger bad ass either.

So here’s hoping 2013 will bring even more changes. And more sales for everyone. And more happiness in this world because God knows we need it.

Now, be careful out there, my pretties and Happy New Year!

Sexy Men in Review Part Two

This is my last sexy man post for the year. Ah, 2012, you’ve been both cruel and kind to me in terms of sexy men.

If you recall, I stopped my Fantasy Man Friday posts because of problems others had over photos that were under copyright protection. It wasn’t as though I thought I was purposely posting pictures without permission. I didn’t think of it until someone got in trouble. Now I wait for the sexy men to say “please post it”.

That was the cruel part of the year.

The kind part came when I went to RomantiCon and was introduced to the sexy men of Ellora’s Cave. The fact that I was able to compound the awesomeness by interviewing them only made the last weeks of 2012 even sweeter. I only have three gorgeous men left to “review” and give you a peek at my favorite part of their interviews. I hope you’ve enjoyed the interviews. I hope I can bring more to you in 2013, but we’ll have to see if I can convince the guys to play along.

Caveman Ryan:
Oh Ryan, our marvelously accented South African caveman. I remember seeing him walking around with a newspaper and having to stifle a sigh.

Danica: If you could go back in time to any era, I’m going to take a stab at this and say you’d go back to Ancient Rome? Possibly the Ancient Greeks? Why?
Ryan: Yep without a doubt the Roman era – they were real men , wars were hand to hand. Like all that layered, rugged, worn, tough clothing they wear and all the chunky leather and cloth accessories covering their arms etc. Just looks so good *grin*. Clearly a rough lifestyle though… mmm

Caveman Taylor:
Turns out Taylor was the sassiest of the cavemen so far. I swear it has nothing to do with me conducting the interview via phone. Okay, maybe it did. I’m lucky my phone didn’t melt from my blushing. It was a fun interview though and I wish I could post the whole thing all over again.

Danica: Do you have any favorite embarrassing or funny moments from a photo shoot?
Taylor: For one of my Playgirl magazine shoots, I was supposed to be a cowboy, so I was in a barn and there were horses in the stalls. There were people all over the place and I was like trying to get it hard, jerking off in front of 10 people. As soon as I would get kind of hard this one horse would reach out and try to bite my shoulder.
Danica: Was the horse jealous?
Taylor: Totally, LOL. I embarrassed the horse.

Caveman Nick:
As most everyone knows, Nick won Alpha Caveman 2012. He was gracious, sweet and fun and didn’t look at me weird for nearly licking his back. I was drunk! Ahem. Anyway, Nick let me interview him via text messages and I can’t thank him enough.

Danica: What do you think is your best feature?
Nick: My best feature is my ability to light up the room. I love bringing life to a crowd and watching everyone have fun. Oh yeah, and my abs aren’t too bad either ;)
Danica: And he ain’t lyin’.

And now that you’re left nothing more than a drooling mess, when  you’re able to…I’d like you to tell me which of these interviews (and men) were your favorites.

Happy New Year! Here’s to a wonderful 2013!

DJ Cristal in the House

Welcome back, peeps! I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. I ate way too much, didn’t exercise enough and didn’t get as much done as I thought I would. But then it was a holiday. You’re supposed to be lazy for holidays. Right? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Before we get to today’s awesome post by my fellow Cabal of Hotness memeber, Cristal Ryder (or Honey Hotness), I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the Pecs & Presents Blog Hop over the weekend. The winner is Joy. Be sure to keep an eye on what goes on here because I’m sure there’s more awesomeness to come!

And now I’m handing the mike over to Cristal.

I was thinking about a song that might go with a pole dance scene and then promo Plus One – it comes out on Jan 4. What about ET, by Katy Perry. I adore that song and I associate it to pole dance because I saw Steve Retchless do a rountine to ET on America’s Got Talent. Plus One has a pole dance scene in it so the two go together a little.

A girls’ night out for a pole dance workshop at her friend’s upscale sex club takes a wild turn for normally timid Karen. She knew what to expect, but not how far she’d be willing to go.

Rob comes to Desire After Dark as a plus one. His only expectation is visual stimulation, not participation. But that soon changes when he spots the buttoned-up-to-there beauty hanging around on the sidelines.

Thrown together, Karen and Rob find the sexual heat between them undeniable. Surrounded by twosomes and moresomes, they step on an unexpected and steamy path. But when another joins in, they have a plus one of their own.

Sexy Men In Review

It’s the Friday before Christmas. Is everyone as ready as I am to get this holiday season over with? It isn’t that I don’t appreciate the sentiment of Christmas, the spirituality, but I’m already exhausted and it isn’t even here yet.

Anyway, the last two weeks of 2012 I’ll be reviewing the men who’ve been interviewed on my blog and reliving some of my favorite moments.  I hope you’ve enjoyed them and I hope to bring some more next year. We’ll just have to wait and see!
Caveman Christian:

Danica: What made you want to become a Caveman?
Christian: You know, I didn’t realize how cool it is to be a Caveman until after I’d already become one.  Six years ago my good friend and photographer extraordinaire, Syneca Featherstone, introduced me to Ellora’s Cave and all the wonderful and interesting people who ARE Ellora’s Cave.
It was and always still is fun and exciting to venture into the sexy
kinky world E.C. and you guys, the readers, the authors, and the fans
have created. I love people who aren’t afraid to speak their
minds…and from the few things I’ve read coming out of Ellora’s Cave
Publishing, you guys have no problem saying exactly what you want to.
I like that!

Caveman Justin:

Cassandra Carr asked Justin in the comments: When your g-string is stuffed with dollar bills, do they itch? Or do you ignore any itching because it’s money money money? I can ignore a lot if people are throwing money at me. Which never happens, by the way. And it should.
Justin: It sometimes can itch, yes. Many times, I would get home, take my clothes off to shower and a bill or two will fall out when I thought I had gotten every one. The one thing I always hated was , sometimes, when I was on stage, I would turn around and dance for the girl and she would take the bill and put it in my thong. The part that flosses the cheeks and move the bill down to where the bill is now looking stupid hanging there! Lol!

Stuart Reardon:

Danica: What do you think is your best feature?
Stuart: My best feature. I guess that’s a question for other people to answer really, not me lol…I would have to say my face…anybody can have a great body if you work hard and eat healthy…. but its our face that makes us different.

Caveman Georgio:

Danica: Are you a butt or a breast man?
Georgio: I’m a butt man lol. I just love playing with them ;)

I’m going to stop there because I’m not sure I can take anymore today. *fans herself* I might need to find someone with high blood pressure medicine. Just for today. Do you have any favorite parts from the interviews?

If you’re looking for some swag to win before the holidays, check out the Pecs and Presents Blog Hop I’m taking part in over the weekend with a few other authors. Stop by right here for rules and ways to win!

I hope y’all have a great Friday and a wonderful, safe weekend.

DJ Griffin in the House

For the next couple of months I’ve turned over my What’s Playing Wednesday posts to my fellow Cabal of Hotness friends. Today we have Chocolate Hotness, also known as A.M. Griffin in the house with a little inspirational song from her newest release, Dangerously Mine. Watch out because she’s giving us a HAWT excerpt for her book.

Hey all! First of all, let me introduce myself:

I’m A. M. Griffin, a wife who rarely cooks, mother of three, dog owner (and sometimes dog owned), a daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She’s a hard worker whose two favorite outlets are reading and writing. She enjoys reading everything from mystery novels to historical romances and of course fantasy romance. She is a believer in the unbelievable, open to all possibilities from mermaids in our oceans and seas, angels in the skies and intelligent life forms in distant galaxies. She has multi-publications in other genres under a different pen name.

While I was writing Dangerously Mine, my debut release from Ellora’s Cave, I wasn’t really listening to anything. I was however, humming little ditties in my head.

“What What in the Butt” by Sam Well seems to be on constant rewind.

There’s not a scene that was inspired by “What What in the Butt”. It’s just a song that has a catchy tune that I think almost anyone can hum. I hum it throughout the day. Now, I have to put the disclaimer out there, just in case my hubby decides to read this. Just because I enjoy the catchy tune does not mean I partake or want to partake in the activity. I do have to say that while I was writing my follow-up book to Dangerously Mine, there is a M/M scene and this song was hummed throughout writing it.

Check it out!

Dangerously Mine Excerpt:

Eva rose and planted both feet firmly on the floor. With her hair streaming around her, she squatted above him. Her hand trembled as she reached down, grabbed his thick cock and positioned it to her tight opening.

She hesitated. She really wasn’t afraid of the size or the man, but what this would mean for her future.

Taio caressed her thighs, urging her down. Taking a deep breath, Eva slowly lowered. The head pressed against her tightness, not budging, too big to enter her. Determined, she tried to work it in, wiggling onto it.

His fingers tightened on her thighs. “If you keep that up, you will make me spill my seed.”

Taio pumped up in a hard thrust. The large head penetrated her.

She closed her eyes and threw her head back. “Oh fuck!”

He grabbed both thighs, holding her unsteady body while he thrust his hips up and down, inching his thick cock deeper into her tight sheath. Her slick walls coated him as it stretched her open.

She slowly moved her hips to meet his rhythm, taking more of him, inch by glorious inch, pumping the length of his penetrating shaft.

Taio’s hands moved to grip her hips. With the pain receding, she was soon overcome by pleasure. Her pace slightly quickened. He filled her up and she wanted more.

The sounds of his shaft now slickened by her juices filled the bridge. Moaning, she dropped to her knees. His shaft filled her to the core, completely stretching her to the limits.

With a groan, Taio rolled his eyes back into his head. “Great Ancients.”

His fingers dug painfully into her skin. She rocked on his shaft, increasing her pace. Each time she rose, her pussy milked him, sucking him back in.

He grabbed her tighter and pumped, faster and harder. Her breasts bounced and swayed in his face. He took one of the hard nipples in his mouth and sucked. His teeth grazed against her sensitive bud.

She slammed her hips down on him. Any fears she had before were long since gone, replaced by intense need.

“You are mine.” He groaned.

Eva erupted with a scream, her walls contracting and spasming against his rod. Holding her tight against his body, he thrust up, spilling his seed deep inside her.

Spent, they both lay quietly, breathing hard, trying to catch their breaths. Eva tried sliding off of him, but was stopped short by a firm hand. Taio’s cock thickened and pulsed inside her again.

Taio answered by pumping his thick shaft in her swollen sheath. Sore, but wanting more, she rose to her knees and elbows. Her hair fanned across his chest. His fingers dug into her hips, holding her in place as he pumped fast and hard.

She would surely have trouble walking, but didn’t care. Never before had she felt anything as good as this.

After they were done, Taio carried her back to her quarters. Feeling the soft cushion of her bed, Eva curled in a ball.

“This doesn’t mean that you own me,” she said groggily.

“You are already mine.”

Enjoy! Griffin

The Super Sekrit Project Reveal

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ve seen references to my super sekrit projects (lately I’ve gone all James Bond on my writing). I have many of them, but one of them involves a group you may have seen me discussing: the Cabal of Hotness. We’re all erotic romance writers and share a twisted sense of humor we applied to writing in a sekrit project.

Well, here it is. One of the super sekrit projects:

The perfect man—with the imperfect cock and oral skills. The Dom who isn’t a dom, and the man who proves it to him. The alien with dessert-flavored semen and three cocks. The older man (a kajillionaire with a penthouse in Seattle…) who has limitless ability to come all night with his naïve little virgin. A woman on a diet who craves a feast of meat and finds herself five Broadshaft Brothers who can deliver.

If you’re looking for the perfect romance with the perfect hero and heroine, this isn’t it! This is a series of spoofs, parodies, just-for-fun lighthearted take-offs. It’s for all us longtime, hard-core romance readers who can laugh at the clichés, purple prose and “suspend your disbelief” plot devices that haunt our beloved favorite genre.

And this:

The virgin whose carefully planned hymen removal doesn’t work out the way all the romance novels told her it would. A busty broad doing what she can to get over her penis anxiety—assisted by a cadre of male strippers. A not-so-bright (and not so “big”) alien who comes to claim his life mate, and the Earth girl who wants to be claimed at all costs. A cursed, mute shapeshifter who needs to pop his cherry with his unsuspecting fated mate.

We had so much fun writing these stories and we can hardly wait to share them with the world. I just don’t know if the world is ready to read them. What do you think?

Keeping It Simple

It’s Monday and my brain isn’t all here. Part of that has to do with me waking up early to work out and the other part has to do with the chemical smell today that’s making me feel as though I’m as high as a kite.

So today’s post is going to be very simple. In the face of all the horrible events we’ve witnessed over the last year, there’s only one thing to say:

If everyone followed this simple creed, we wouldn’t have half the problems we do in the world today.

I’ll be back to my regularly programmed blog later this week.

Interview With Caveman Nick

Today we have the most Alpha of the Cavemen. How do I know this? Because he was voted Alpha Caveman at RomantiCon 2012. Oh yes, Nick Soto is here with his amazing body, positive attitude and dimples. On his face. I swear I only tried to lick his back once. Maybe…twice, but I was under the influence. I wouldn’t do that sober. Maybe.

But, I do know one crazy Cabal member who’d probably take that bet and run with it. She also has a new release today. Yup, you guessed it. I’m talking about the one and only A.M. Griffin whose book, Dangerously Mine is out today. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Caveman Rodney for her release day, but I think this caveman is a more than adequate substitute, yeah?

Here’s Nick!

Danica: Have you ever read one of the books you’ve been a cover model for?
Nick: I have not had the chance to read one of the books I’ve been on the cover on. I like fitness and nutrition books 😉

Danica: What’s your favorite part about being a cover model/dancer?
Nick: The best part about being a cover model and dancer is the way I affect people through my art. I can motivate them or inspire them, and make them feel good about themselves 🙂

Danica: What’s the one place in the world you’d love to visit and why?
Nick: If I could visit anywhere in the world it would be Jamaica. I love the culture, the music and the laid back island feel.
Danica: Anya is probably ready to show him the sights.

Danica: Do you have any upcoming appearances? If so, what, when and where?
Nick: Yes, I have up coming Zumba appearances in North Carolina and South Carolina in January and a Zumba appearance in New Jersey in February.
Danica: There’s going to be a sudden surge of people signing up. It’s going to be insane.

Danica: What do you think is your best feature?
Nick: My best feature is my ability to light up the room. I love bringing life to a crowd and watching everyone have fun. Oh yeah, and my abs aren’t too bad either 😉
Danica: And he ain’t lyin’.

Danica: What’s your favorite kink? (Yes, I mean sexually.)
Nick: My favorite kink is watching a woman train or dance. Nothing sexier than a woman at work.
Danica: He should totally see me in my hard-hat. Now that’s work, baby. Yeah. I can point at things very well.

Danica: How many hours do you spend in the gym?
Nick: I don’t spend that long in the gym. No longer than an hour and a half. I get in and get out. 😉
Danica: Hm, that wink makes me wonder what else takes an hour and a half…and I can say this because I’m almost certain he won’t be stopping by.

Danica: Do you have any embarrassing or funny moments from a photo shoot?
Nick: Not really, LOL. All of my photo shoots have been fun, smooth and I don’t mess up 😉

Danica: Are you a breast or a butt man?
Nick: I’m a butt man. Personally, it shows strong legs and thighs. I love it.
Danica: This is where Anya turns around and sticks it out.

Danica: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done as a model?
Nick: I have modeled with dogs before. That was crazy and fun.
Danica: I think this is probably the picture he’s talking about. Which is just too cute really. My dog, that hussy, would have adored posing for this picture.

Danica: What’s your favorite color?
Nick: My favorite color is black. It goes with everything and it’s a strong color.

Danica: What’s your favorite food?
Nick: anything that is not a diet choice! LOL I love all kinds of food, but I really crave sweets. I love chocolate.

Danica: Do you prefer summer or winter?
Nick: I prefer summer over winter. I love to keep it hot and sexy all year round.
Danica: Ahem. I just bet he does…

Danica: What’s one movie you can watch over and over again?
Nick: I can watch Dazed and Confused 😉 I love the 70s

Danica: Do you prefer beaches or mountains?
Nick: I prefer beaches to mountains. I love being on the beach. It gives me peace and I love the tropical weather.

Danica: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Nick: I don’t wear boxers. I do wear underwear, but boy shorts are cut way sexier and fits me way better 😉
Danica: There goes that wink again…that wink is dangerous. But then so are his dimples.

Danica: What’s your favorite sexual position?
Nick: I love having a girl on top of me 😉
Danica: Oy…or rather Oh em gee, as Sasha would say.

So…was it as good for y’all as it was for me? 😉 Happy Friday, my friends.

DJ Cassandra In The House

Continuing with the Cabal of Hotness themed What’s Playing Wednesdays this month, today I have Mistress Hotness herself, Cassandra Carr stopping by with her song choice of the day.

I write sexy stories, so I like to listen to sexy music while I do that. One of my favorite songs ever, particularly for writing, is Insatiable. It’s not blatantly sexual, but it is very sensual. Sure, he appears to be singing about sex and how he can’t get enough of it with his woman, but the way the song flows doesn’t make that obvious. I could seriously listen to it on a loop while I’m writing.

I first heard Insatiable while I had our music collection on “shuffle” one day. Hubs has digitized our entire music collection on our server. (Yes, we have our own server. Yes, we’re geeks.) I immediately sat up and said, “WHAT is this?” The song caught my attention within the first few bars and I listened to the entire thing with rapt attention. I’d never even heard of Darren Hayes, but after hearing that song, I was hooked on it.

I don’t often listen to music while I’m writing because, well, I love my music and it distracts me. But sometimes, like today when my nearly four-year-old daughter is home, it’s either listen to my music or her shows on PBS Kids. I choose my music. I should probably make up some playlists, but usually I just click on whatever strikes my fancy that day. Nearly every time, though, Insatiable is on that list.

MASTER CLASS by Cassandra Carr
Publisher: Loose Id
ePublish date: 12/11/2012
ISBN: 978-1-62300-068-4
Ryan Tomasi feels like a failure. His marriage is officially over; the ink dried on the divorce decree. His friend Jack introduces him to BDSM and he agrees to attend a Halloween party at a club. A submissive approaches him, offering herself, and how can he refuse the kneeling beauty? They do a whirlwind scene and Ryan is addicted—both to dominance and to her.

Lisette Rinaldo is returning to the BDSM club for the first time since ending a bad relationship with her former master. She spots Ryan and is taken by the combination of self-assurance and nervousness the man displays as he takes in his surroundings. And after he gives her an incredible re-introduction to the lifestyle, she knows she needs to see the man again.

Ryan and Lisette explore each other and the lifestyle, but what started out as playtime quickly evolves into something more. The problem? Ryan isn’t ready to get serious again and Lisette doesn’t want to fall in love with a guy who can’t give all of himself to her. Both of them are going to have to break out of the bonds holding them back from happiness.
