Fact and Fiction

So last week was the premier of Cajun Justice. I’m sure most of Terrebonne Parish watched at least the first episode because we wanted to see how we were portrayed. I had to give myself a week to gather information from other people and to compose my own thoughts.

First of all, a lot of people I’ve talked to were disappointed. I’ve heard everything from “Everyone is going to think we don’t have teeth down here!” to “Do they have to find the worst people to show?” Which is kind of normal, I think. Any time there’s a hurricane or some other disaster, the media gravitates toward the people who don’t represent the area as a whole. So yeah, that was disappointing.

Secondly, the voodoo thing. I know I’ve mentioned the gris-gris before, but it isn’t all that common (as far as I know). I’ve never met anyone associated with the practice, or witnessed a ritual anywhere but on television. However, superstition is a big part of the culture here. That part is true, or it was in past generations. Today, I wouldn’t say there’s as much superstition as there used to be unless it was passed down.

Next is the heat. Okay, they definitely got that right. I’ve been moaning about the heat since the end of March.

Also, while we do have a very healthy alligator population, they’re not in everyone’s yard. Okay, that isn’t entirely true. Where you live in the parish would dictate how often you would see an alligator. The closer you are to the bayous and canals, the more alligators you’ll see. Of course, saying that, the entire area is cut with bayous, canals, and drainage ditches. They may have exaggerated that part a bit, but it does hold a grain of truth.

All in all, most people I talked to found the show silly. I was able to laugh about it because I had my godson sending me text messages throughout the two-show premier, especially when the deputies found the paranormal investigators. Here’s how our conversation went:

Nephew: Ghosts!
Me: Cajun ghosts at that!
Nephew: Which is even worse because you can’t understand what they’re saying.

So did you watch Cajun Justice? What did you think about it? I’m going to continue watching if only for the entertainment value and the heckling I can do with my nephew.

Porn Star Dancing

Yup, time for another What’s Playing Wednesday in the theme of stripping/exotic dancing. This time around, I purposely chose a clip that wasn’t the official video. As much as I enjoyed writing Magda’s book, I just couldn’t see myself playing a video with so many scantily clad women. Sorry y’all, if it had been men, it would’ve been a completely different story. Heh.

Anyway, today’s song is by a band called My Darkest Days. They seem to really like barely dressed women touching each other. Out of curiosity, I checked out another video by them for a song I really like and it was almost identical to this one. Go figure. LOL

Obviously this song, if the title of the post doesn’t tell you, is called “Porn Star Dancing”. It’s got a great beat, some killer guitar solos by Zakk Wylde, and some naughty lyrics to go with the video I’m not playing, LOL (If you’re dying of curiosity, it’s out there.)

So here’s “Porn Star Dancing” by My Darkest Days!

Giveaway Results

The weekend is over *boo, hiss*, but it’s not all bad news. I’ve picked the winners for the two copies of You Bet Your Banshee from my release day giveaway and the giveaway held on Stacey Espino’s blog. They are…Marsha and flchen1! If you missed a chance to win this time around, never fear for I’ll be giving away three more copies at the end of the month. I’ll announce those guest appearances closer to the dates.

It was a horrible weekend. The weather was atrocious. Seriously atrocious. I think it might have been worse than when we had Tropical Storm Lee pass through her over Labor Day weekend. Rain, rain, more rain, and wind. My yard looks like a pool which means my pampered puppy tiptoes to do her business and old cat refuses to leave the porch.

I took a break from writing, but not brainstorming. In fact, I had one of the best brainstorming sessions with my mom yesterday. Sometimes writers need to talk to a non-writing person to get their thoughts straight. She helped me get through a huge plot snarl I plan to untangle this week and hopefully I’ll be able to send that story off to Evernight in a couple of weeks. Then, the WIP I finished last week is in the final stages of pre-edits for me to submit to Ellora’s Cave which I’m hoping to send to my editor this week.

Lots going on and more to come it seems, but that’s what a writer’s life is like, isn’t it?

How was your weekend?

Fantasy Man Friday

Woot, woot! It’s Friday. It’s Friiiiday. It’s Friiiiidaaaaay! Yay! The winner of the Keyboards and Kink blog hop is Ursula! Congrats, Ursula!

So it’s been an insane week. Had some medical tests done on Monday, found out on Wednesday that I’m normal…medically at least. Had a book release on Wednesday (There’s still time to enter for a chance to win a copy of You Bet Your Banshee. The giveaway ends on Sunday night and the winner will be announced on Monday.) And today marks the release of Keyboards and Kink, a thirteen author anthology which contains my short story, Immortal Game (Olympus, Inc. 1.5). Woot!

And I did hear that I should be getting edits soon(ish) for Primal Song which is coming out with Ellora’s Cave. I also finished a WIP this week and sent it off to be tortured looked over by the lovely Avril Ashton. I’m hoping to get that one cleaned up and submitted to my editor in the next couple of weeks.

*rubs her hands together* Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?

Oh, but you’re not here for all of that news. You’re here for the man, huh? Well, okay. I guess I can share him with you now. Since it is release day, I started thinking about the hero of Immortal Game. Briareus is his name and he’s a giant with a naughty reputation. I’m not giving you any more information than that. But when I stumbled upon today’s Fantasy Man, I realized he reminded me of my hero, Briareus.

I’m not going to tell you which part reminds me of a giant *cough* but I’ll let you use your imagination. Heh. I mean, uh, he reminds me of Briareus because of the dress shirt. My hero has a very respectable job (sort of) working in Tartarus, the Mount Olympus prison alongside his brothers. But they’re nowhere as interesting as BC (Briareus Colonomos). Now aren’t you glad you stuck around? If you didn’t faint that is. If you’ve fainted, I take no responsibility for any injuries sustained during your perusal of this blog post. 😉

Happy Friday!

More Guest Blogging

It’s been an crazy week and it isn’t over yet. You Bet Your Banshee released yesterday. I’m hosting a giveaway here on my blog that will run through the weekend. Today I’m going to be over at Stacey Espino’s blog with another chance to win You Bet Your Banshee. I’m talking about songs to take your clothes off to over there so be sure to stop and comment.

I’m also involved in the Keyboards and Kink blog hop which ends at midnight tonight. It’s a thirteen author anthology, which means lots of hot stories. If you’d like to win a copy, be sure to take part in the hop!

And tomorrow is another release day. Why do I feel like Forrest Gump when I say that? Like “I got to visit the president again“. But it’s true. Not the president part, but the release day part. What a crazy week.

To top it off, tonight is the premiere of Cajun Justice on A&E. Y’all. Seriously, I have to watch this show just because I know it’s going to provide me with endless hours of blogging material. I think nearly everyone in Terrebonne Parish is going to be watching it as well if only so they can complain about how they make us seem. It should be interesting.

Oh, did I mention I finished one of my WIPs? Yup, I wrote The End on Primal Design on Tuesday afternoon and sent it off to the lovely Avril Ashton for a beta. Hopefully it doesn’t suck. Now I just need to buckle down and finish Immortal Envy (Olympus, Inc. 2) and start working on my reaper book for the Three Kingdoms trilogy.

So much to do, so much to do!

Release Day Strip Off

Woot! Today’s the release of You Bet Your Banshee (The Three Kingdoms) and I’m so excited about it that I’m giving away a copy to one lucky commenter. But first, did you know there’s still time to win a copy of Keyboards and Kink Anthology which releases from Evernight this Friday. Just visit as many of the author blog sites participating in the blog hop for a chance to win!

And now on to the banshee release day song. This month is all about stripping/taking your clothes off for What’s Playing Wednesdays. I know, it isn’t my regular fair and I’m sure someone will be very put out with me for the objectification of women, but the heroine of You Bet Your Banshee is a stripper. She became one as a way to make fast money. Did I mention she’s also a banshee on the run which means she can’t exactly get a job where paperwork is required? Or that she has a very unique skill that makes her a good stripper? Yeah, well, she does.

So when I was thinking about a theme for What’s Playing Wednesdays, I realized there are a lot of songs out there about stripping, taking your clothes off, etc. and decided that was the direction I needed to take in honor of Magda.

Today’s offering is Wyclef Jean’s “Perfect Gentleman”. I really do like this song and when it came out, I was immediately hooked. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and well, just because she dances from pole to pole, it don’t make her a ho, no. Which is exactly how I portrayed Magda.

So, to win a copy of You Bet Your Banshee, just tell me what your name would be if you were an exotic dancer. Would you go for something traditional, or something else? The contest will remain open until midnight June 10th and the winner announced on Monday, June 11. And don’t try to tell me you’ve never given any thought to stripping, even if it’s only in your own home. I’ll also be over at Stacey Espino’s blog tomorrow with another chance to win, so be sure to check back for the link!

What’s a banshee to do when she’s sentenced to death because of her inability to cry? Move to Earth and become a stripper, of course. For ten years, Magda O’Quinn has lived on Earth, supporting herself with her butt-shaking skills and hiding from the banshee queen who wants her death, before she discovers people are hunting her who won’t stop until she’s back in Fairworld.
The first to find her is hunky Halfling, Ryvan Keller, an agent of the fairy queen. The attraction Magda feels for him is panty-wetting to be sure, but there’s no way she’ll give in to her attraction and meekly follow him back into the hell of Fairworld. She’ll have to battle extreme lust for a sexy Halfling, fall in love, and defeat an evil queen before she can get back to the business of having a life again.

Keyboards and Kink Blog Hop

Hi all! Today kicks off the start of the Keyboards and Kink blog hop to celebrate the upcoming release of the Keyboards and Kink Anthology which comes out Friday, June 8, 2012! I’m very excited about this release, not only because my short story, Immortal Love (Olympus, Inc. 1.5) is included, but also because I’m sharing this release date with so many amazing people.

What’s the purpose of the blog hop? Well, by visiting all the authors’ blogs listed below, you’ll be entered to win a digital copy of Keyboards and Kink. The blog hop will run from Monday, June 4th to the end of day, Thursday, June 7th. The winner will be picked and announced on Friday. The more times you comment, the more chances you have to win!

A night at home on the computer doesn’t have to be boring…

Feel like chatting? Or maybe doing something more daring? The stranger reaching out across cyberspace could be a creepy pervert, but what if he wasn’t? What if he’s a vampire, the sexy boy next door, or even your gorgeous boss? Thirteen tales explore all the delicious possibilities when online relationships lead to sexy encounters away from the keyboard.

Iris Argyris is tired of rainbows and purity. Unfortunately, as the Greek goddess of rainbows, she can’t do anything about that part of her life, but she can change the other. Meeting with the mortal she’s fallen in love with via an online role-playing game is one way to end her streak of purity and innocence. Although she’s known him for five years, meeting her beloved Thunderkiss doesn’t turn out the way she thought it would because he’s none other than a coworker at Olympus, Inc. with a dangerous reputation. A man who’d never looked at her twice.

Briareus Colonomos is the Greek god of storms and one of the original giants. Rude, crude, and not quite handsome, he’s spent thousands of years trying to find a woman who’d see beneath the surface. When he meets Pain-Bow Brite online, he thinks he’s finally found someone who can care for him. It doesn’t matter that she’s mortal. He wants her and he’ll have her. Except she isn’t mortal at all. She’s goody two-shoes goddess, Iris. A woman too pure and innocent for the likes of him. Or is she? He’ll find out and if she’s half the bad girl as her online character is, he’ll have to keep her forever.

Now go forth and visit my fellow K&K authors!
