- What is the Veil?
The Veil is the supernatural community that exists parallel to the human (or mundane) world. It has its own set of laws, its own police force, and its own race of beings that humans have always believed to exist in fairy tales. The Veil is so named because it has always existed just beyond the veil of human comprehension and sight. This page is devoted to the governing bodies of the Veil. The Veil is comprised of many different organizations which helps it to flourish as a community.
The High Council (most commonly referred to as ‘Council’)-Council has five seats and each seat has a particular job.
- The Linguar is the Negotiator of the Council. This is the person responsible for all ‘public relations’ and they often act as the moderator during Council sessions.
- The Oculum is the Spy for Council. Though Veilerians like to believe that the Veil is serene and secure from threat, that just isn’t true. The Oculum constantly searches for threats to the Veil through their own chosen means.
- The Nidurum is the Council Tracker. Usually a being of great stealth, the Nidurum works hand-in-hand with the Oculum in the apprehension of those who threaten the Veil.
- The Aristus is the Interrogator for Council. With their intuition and skill, the Interrogator is responsible for making sure any charges brought before the Council are truthful. If a criminal is apprehended, the Interrogator makes certain that there are no questions left unanswered.
- The Manu is the Council Executioner. Should any being be formally charged with crimes against Council, the Manu is responsible for seeing that any sentence is carried out. From fines to imprisonment to death, the Manu will make sure all judgments are met to the full extent of Council Law.
The Guardian Guild – the Guild is comprised of different
branches, each dealing with different matters within the Veil.
- Breed Affairs and Records – this section of the Guild deals with all births, matings, and deaths that occur in the Veil. Every record is meticulously maintained by a force of hundreds. They also handle any and all business permits in the Veil.
- Mundane Relations – this section of the Guild deals exclusively with the mundane (or human) world. Any time Veilerians are careless enough to be seen by humans, Mundane Relations sends their agents in to contain the problem.
- Academy – the Guild Academy was designed to be the ‘school’ for all who wish to join the Veil Protection Agency in any capacity. Cadets are taught self-defense, magical defense, investigative techniques, and spend countless hours learning about every race within the Veil.
- Veil Protection Agency – the Agency is on the very peripherals of the Guardian Guild. Set up as more of a police force, the VPA investigates all major crimes from theft to murder.
- The Guardian Elite are the highest ranking members of the Agency.
- They answer only to Council or the VPA Elite Chief. They weren’t always considered the best of the best. In the Veil’s long history, the Elite was comprised of Half-breeds who were pressed to serve as unpaid muscle. Because of the many talents inherited from both parents, the Half-Breed Guardian Elite quickly became some of the most sought after investigators and enforcers. After many centuries of building the Guardian Elite into something to be admired, the practice of forcing Halflings into service became obsolete. Now the Guardian Elite welcomes all races, Halfing or not, into it’s ranks. Their training is more rigorous than any other branch of the VPA, keeping the Elite just that.
- There is a very, very small branch of the VPA that is only rumored to exist, although many swear that they’ve seen them at work. This would be the greatly feared Assassins Guild. Because their work is so covert and illegal, most of the Veil believes that their VPA would never allow such a group to exist. Unfortunately, the only people who know if it’s true or not would be those in the Assassins Guild and those whom they’ve killed.
