Spotlight on Tyler Robbins

Today I have the spotlight on m/m erotic romance author, Tyler Robbins. Here’s a little about Tyler’s latest release, A Beautiful Lie which came out on April 28, 2013!

Blurb:

Jesse Reagan has had more than his share of tragedy, and he may have been dealt another blow when, once again, cancer threatens the sister who raised him. Faced with the possibility of being left behind, Jesse vows to care for her young son, though he’s not convinced he can.

When Trip Cantrell returns to town, he’s blindsided the instant he’s reunited with his kid brother’s lifelong friend, Jesse. His inability to find happiness in the years he’s been gone, suddenly makes sense. Love’s been waiting at home all along.

Life begins to look promising, except for the fact that neither have come out of the closet publicly, and that’s not even their biggest problem. Someone has a secret so shocking they may never find a way past it.

Will they be accepted in their small Texas town, or will secrets, lies, and the threat of tragedy destroy everything?

Excerpt:

Trip could feel the tension radiating from the other man. Following his instincts, he gripped Jesse’s shoulder and squeezed. “You’re not alone you know. If you ever want to talk or need help with anything, let me know.”

Jesse turned his head, shocking the hell out of Trip by leaning in to where Trip held his shoulder, slightly brushing his cheek against Trip’s fingers.

Trip tightened his grip, savoring the feel of Jesse’s skin touching his. Was he imagining it?

Jesse slowly lifted his chin as his green eyes, darkening by the second, settled on Trip.

Trip’s heart raced, and his hardening c**k pressed against the zipper of his jeans. Was this really happening?

He inched closer, inhaling deep, losing himself in the aroma of Jesse’s quite memorable cologne. He swallowed hard, his lips tingling at the thought of Jesse’s mouth on his.

Jesse’s chest rose and fell, his breathing grew louder by the second, infiltrating Trip’s mind until his own breaths caught up, matching Jesse’s pants breath for heated breath. Jesse’s eyelids lowered to half-mast, his desire obvious as f**k.

Trip reacted on instinct alone, no thinking, just doing. He pulled Jesse closer until their lips were centimeters apart. Jesse’s exhales warmed Trip’s skin.

The night went silent the instant Jesse’s soft lips grazed Trip’s.

Seconds felt like hours until Trip engulfed Jesse’s mouth all together. With hungry sweeps, Trip dove deeper, sucking, and tangling his tongue with Jesse’s. He cupped the back of Jesse’s neck, and held on as their mouths warred for dominance over the other.

Trip gasped when Jesse’s wandering hand discovered his erection through his jeans. “F**k.”

Hot air poured over Trip’s neck as Jesse’s kisses blanketed his throat.

“I’ve wanted to do that all night.” Trip splayed his fingers through Jesse’s silky, black hair, hoping against hope Jesse would move his mouth lower.

Jesse fumbled with the buttons on Trip’s shirt, and plucked the first few open. He worked his way across Trip’s chest, circling Trip’s erect nipples with his warm, wet tongue. “S**t, Jesse.” Trip struggled to catch his breath. Everything was so intense, moved so fast, Trip could hardly tell if it was real.

He leaned Jesse back, seizing the few stolen moments he hoped were actually happening. His kisses grew heavier, and his need increased. He’d take it as far as Jesse would let him. He had no choice. Please let this be real.

Blurb:

Book three in the Unveiled Seductions series.

Talathion Frostbane was tasked with saving his people and took on the responsibility unflinchingly. Yet all it takes to throw his entire existence into chaos is one encounter with the wyvern-shifter he spurned two hundred years before. The passion between them is as strong as ever, but there’s no escaping the expectations of the clan. And giving in to the all-consuming desire for the dragonkin would have devastating consequences.

When Hervé Cinq à Sept travels to the Fey city of Leaich, searching for answers after someone tries to kill him, what he finds rocks his world in a variety of ways and leads him down a path of inescapable hunger. As he finds himself on his knees, lost in desperate need and heading for heartbreak, he realizes why, as a species, the dragonkin no longer believe in love. It’s so easy to lose everything—pride, independence, control—when the one you want to claim can never be yours.

Excerpt:

The wyvern had always been handsome. As a young dragon just past his majority he’d shown evidence of the man he’d become. But then his beauty was that of youth—fresh, brash and still somewhat unformed. Now, in the prime of his life, he was no longer beautiful but absolutely, completely magnificent. Time had scourged all softness from his face and left it fierce and powerful with a calm strength Talathion found compelling. His shoulders seemed broader, his chest and arms more muscular, another sign of the changes maturity had wrought. The tattoos above his ear and peeking out from beneath the collar of his black shirt gave him an aura of danger, of being a man unafraid to stand out.

Just looking at him gave Talathion a shock of excitement, yet it was the wyvern’s eyes, their expression, he most wanted to see. From the moment they’d met, from the very first time he’d looked into that emerald gaze, it had haunted him. Sometimes those eyes danced with laughter, at other times they were serious or coolly arrogant, but no matter the expression they were always enthralling. And when the eyelids drooped, veiling but not concealing the flash of dragonfire, the unmistakable sexual energy surrounding Hervé flared hot and wild…

Talathion closed his eyes, thankful Hervé’s attention had been focused on whatever he was doing. Their time together had been so long ago it had no bearing on the present. And undoubtedly his reminiscences had been altered by the vagaries of memory.

I can’t let old longings deflect me from what needs to be done. I have to get back to Leaich.

Yet just that quick glance at the man who’d stolen his heart at a time when he could least afford to give it made his flesh tingle, the muscles beneath grow taut and hot. A sudden, heightened awareness of his nakedness beneath the covers made his fingers clench into fists. He tried to ignore the pressure building in his groin, but was glad of the quilt bunched across his lap as his cock stirred and began to rise.

“So, are you hungry?”

In ways I don’t dare admit to.

“Mr. Thorpe? Sir, we have received word of a bombing in Asheville. It appears someone targeted Hilargi, Inc. A black BMW M5 matching the description of Eleanor Beckett’s was seen leaving the area. We believe she is headed this way. What would you like for us to do?” The skinny, small-framed man looked more like a sleazy used car salesman than a messenger. Tension and fear filled his voice. He was only a few steps into the room but seemed to think it was too far in for comfort.

His boss looked up from his paper with no particular interest, picked up his wine glass, and gave the dark-red contents a hard look. He took a large mouthful and swallowed hard. Giving the skinny man an appraising eye, he thought about the message for a few moments more.

“Let her. Don’t try to stop her, for your own safety. If she is on the run, there’s something far more dangerous on her trail. Do you know if she was alone?”

“We can’t be sure, sir, but we think she has her niece and a fairy with her.” The salesman-like messenger took a step back toward the door, anxious to be anywhere but here.

“Well, then. I think we can expect guests. I look forward to meeting them. Send most of the guards and staff away. Tell them they can have the evening off and to go party responsibly.” The man practically ran from the room, leaving him alone. He was intrigued. Eleanor was rumored to have something of tremendous value in her possession. Whatever it was, she was sure to have it with her. Her visit had the potential to be very profitable. Perhaps she would barter safety for a little slice of the pie. He would have to call this in to his boss. His boss required a taste of Thorpe’s profitable dishes, but it was okay. That was just how the system worked, how he himself had became so wealthy. He smiled to himself and went back to reading his paper.

One More Lie

It’s time for another What’s Playing Wednesday.

This week I’m trying my best to finish a project that’s taken me a lot longer to write than I’d like. Normally (which sounds weird since I’m not a plotter), when I start a story, I can finish it in a month, maybe two at the very most if I have to stop for some reason. But sometimes, like now, my story stalls. The characters refuse to speak to me. In this case, they refused to speak to me for six months. Yes, you heard me. SIX MONTHS!

With the end of March approaching and the end in “sight”, I’m not letting them boss me around anymore. This story is going to end. It’s going down, Jack! This determination means all the lovely books I bought on Tuesday will have to go unread until I write “The End”. Yes, I’m putting aside my burning desire to read books I’ve waited to get my grubby hands on for months and months and if anyone tells me what happens, I’ll cut a bitch!

Which brings me back to today’s song. I’m hoping, with all of my being, that I can fulfill this promise to myself. March 31 is my deadline. 15k-20k words by midnight on Sunday to finish my book. I can do it. I can push the pretty, awesome, readable books to the side until I’ve climbed this mountain. Right?

I just hope I’m not lying to myself. Like I do nearly every weekend. “I’m going to write all day Saturday.” I end up running around town with my sister. “I’m going to write on Sunday.” I end up visiting with family, napping or watching House Hunters for hours on end. This time though, I’m serious. I’m writing on Friday. I’m writing on Saturday. And I won’t make a liar out of myself.

Dean’s List Release Day Fantasies

Woot! I love Release Day! I’ll love this one even more if I manage to avoid jury duty, but that’s a story for another day.

Right now, it’s all about my hero Dean and his bevy of beauties. We all have fantasies. I think I talked about this somewhere…*frown* I feel as though I wrote that line in an interview or a guest blog…oh well. But we do. Like, I keep having this recurring dream that the Wayans brothers will knock on my door (as well as every other lady in the Cabal) and ask if they can make a movie out of our Fondled and Gobbled spoofs. And our stories will be on the big screen in all their messy, hilarious glory. Either that, or we’ll be banned from a dozen countries for being too outrageous and then we’ll become notorious and everyone will want us to write more spoofs and I’d finally be able to hire a pool boy. I don’t have a pool, nor do I plan to have one but I want a pool boy.

Okay, I have more realistic fantasies. I have sexual fantasies, I have rich and famous fantasies, I have Please-let-me-sleep-until-6-in-the-morning fantasies. But the bottom line is I have them. I don’t act on all of them, or many of them, but I have them as does everyone else. Dean and his women act on his fantasies. And theirs. They live them out in vivid, sexy detail and I was just the hapless writer who got it down on paper.

So here’s to Dean and his women *toast* I hope everyone who decides to give this story a chance, enjoys it in the same spirit it was written. And to get us in the mood…here’s a little Ludacris to enjoy while you tell me: What is your fantasy? (It doesn’t have to be sexual or naughty, just something simple.) Don’t forget I’m taking part in THREE, yes three giveaways this week! The What In The World Is Danica Thinking giveaway (win Danica Avet swag), the Big Cocks and Shamrocks Blog Hop (Swag, books and a grand prize!) and the Dean’s List Scavenger Hunt ($50 gift card and a copy of Dean’s List). Stop by to enter!

Book Spotlight On..Me

Well, sort of. I’m actually putting the spotlight on Dean’s List, my upcoming release with Ellora’s Cave. I think I’m more nervous about this book than any other I’ve written. Probably because it’s unlike anything I’ve ever written before. I just hope everyone likes it. Not just men but women as well.

And uh, to help with that, I’m doing a Scavenger Hunt. Woot! With the help of the amazing organizers at Candlelight Book Promotions and their bevvy of hosting sites, we’re holding a fifteen stop hunt. I thought it might be fun to do something different and I’m so not disappointed!

So I guess I need to be getting with the good stuff. I hope y’all enjoy the hunt!

About me (as if you didn’t already know!):

Bio:

Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.

Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. When she isn’t writing, working or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

What A Hoot

It’s Monday. Meh.

From Friday afternoon to just before dawn today felt more like a week than a weekend. I could have sworn today was Tuesday. Honestly!

Why? Well, because I barely had an uncomplicated minute to myself. For the most part, I can’t complain. Friday afternoon, while checking out a building, I stumbled across something I’ll probably never see again. At first, because I was all alone and the building was shadowy and kind of scary and because I was expecting to see something like a snake, possum or raccoon, I was scared. I mean, wouldn’t you be if you saw something move out the corner of your eye and heard this ominous clicking sound? Especially when there was supposed to be nothing in this building?

Liar! Y’all all want to act as though you would have known, but y’all would’ve been just like me. Point at it, shout “holy shit! What is that?” to no one in particular and walk away as though it’s going to grow fangs and come at you like the killer rabbit in The Holy Grail. It was only later that I realized this is what I stumbled across:

2013-02-15_16-04-53_939

It’s a baby owl. One of two I found huddling next to a box in the warehouse. I don’t know if they fell from their perch, if their mother abandoned them when crews began to work on the building or what, but they didn’t look like owls when I first saw them. They looked like…monsters. Sure, laugh! I did. But do you see the size of those talons? I told my coworker if he didn’t leave them alone they were going to fly at his face and eat it.

So the excitement from the Great Owl Discovery faded and I had a baby shower to attend on Saturday. It was nice. My nephew’s girlfriend got a lot of presents and looked adorable with her baby bump. I wonder if she even realizes she’s naming my great-nephew the same name I chose for one of my heroes. Mason. Hopefully this Mason has an easier life of it than the fictional one. Which come to think of it is kind of funny. My sister named her new puppy Izzy. That’s the name of my heroine from Ain’t No Bull. I bet she forgot that.

By Saturday night though, I was convinced someone was trying to kill me. I spent most of the night casting up my accounts (which sounds a lot like math) which meant when Sunday rolled around, I felt like death warmed over. I slept all day, watched G.I. Joe and bitched at Duke for forgiving The Baroness. *mutters*

Anyway, this is going to be another hectic week with a Cabal of Hotness Chat at Coffee Time Romance tomorrow night and the cabal is in full force over at Naughty Author Chicks this week. Again. Yes we invaded them hard. OH!! And the second volume of the Fondled and Gobbled anthology, Going Back for Seconds comes out this Friday. There are some very stressed, freaked out funny women in the Cabal.

The Day The Earth Stood Still

No, I’m not talking about the movie. I’m talking about the sheer awesomeness that’s taking place today. I mean, really? There’s so much awesome going on, I had trouble deciding on a song for today. If I tried to find something that fit the magnitude of fantabuliciousness…well, let’s just say that your computers would explode and you’d then try to sue me for it. So we’re not going there. *puts away her rendition of What About Me*

But what is this awesomeness, you may ask. First off, it’s Release Day times two. Yes, times two! My fellow Cabalite, Cara Carnes has a hot release today with Weekend Menage. Mega Happy Release Day, Cara! I’ll be featuring her next week with a giveaway, but her book is hawt. H.A.W.T. And it made me think that while the Cabal likes to bring the funny, we’re also some amazingly erotic writers. Wait, that didn’t come out right. I meant that we write some hot stuff. Despite our goofy, sometimes inappropriate humor which makes an appearance in the Fondled and Gobbled stories, this is what we’re all about:

If you’re old enough, you’ll recall the big buzz about Madonna back in the day. She was all naughty and sexy and wore her bra outside her clothes, but yeah, she was all about being the bad girl of the music industry. Just like the Cabal features women who are some of the bad girls of romance.

Then there’s the other release day. Oh yes, it’s finally here. Fondled and Gobbled: Someone Had To Do It is out today! Do you hear that? That’s the roars of outrage from people with no sense of humor mingled with the howls of laughter from those who “get” what we’re doing. Yes, we’re serious about erotic romance and bringing the sexy. We’re all about that. But we also like to laugh and we wanted to share that with our readers. Some people won’t get this at all. They’ll read it as a serious erotic romance and become offended. I’m prepared for that. Because while we’re also the bad girls of romance…we’re also a bit like this:

*sigh* Yes, we’re silly and can be very goofy sometimes. Well, I can. I enjoy it. It helps me relieve stress to mock myself and others. Yes, I mock others. Just ask my mom.

Happy Release Day to the Cabal of Hotness! There’s no going back now! And to prove it, we’ve invaded the Naughty Author Chicks’ blog for nearly the entire month with our brand of funny. Check out the characters from both volumes of Fondled and Gobbled and be sure to get your copy!

A Plague Upon the House of Avet

At least that’s what it feels like.

Last week, I thought I was dying. Went to the doctor to find out I had an upper respiratory infection. Okay, I can handle that as long as I get a shot and some meds. I was a good girl. I took all of my medicine, which is unusual for me, and I rested. I didn’t overdo it or anything. Thanksgiving rolled around and I had a wonderful time.

The food was plentiful and good. The football games were plentiful and two of them were really good. I had big plans for Friday and Saturday. I have so many WIPs that need to be worked on, I promised myself (and my muse) that we’d sit down and churn out some serious numbers. Friday morning I woke up, had a cup of coffee, took a shower, put clean pjs on and went back to bed. I slept until 2 pm. Obviously I wasn’t going to get any writing done. It had to be some kind of post-Thanksgiving funk. I shrugged off the thought and enjoyed a day of laziness because Saturday it was on like Donkey Kong!

Saturday morning I woke up, groaned and heaved and coughed and sneezed. Ugh. I wasn’t going anywhere. Not even the store to pick up groceries for me and the animals. I rolled back in bed, certain I’d feel better by Sunday when I absolutely had to go to the store. No excuses.

Yup, still sick on Sunday morning, but I went to the store and bought sweets. Why? I have no idea, but when I got home I had cookies and doughnuts and ice cream. I wanted to eat all of it, while sniffling and sneezing over it, permanently claiming it all as mine. I didn’t of course, but I did eat a lot of bad stuff yesterday. And guess what? It didn’t make me feel any better.

Here we are an exact week after my doctor’s appointment and the cold still lingers. *shakes her fist at the fates* However, I did start writing last night after the Saints broke my heart by losing. Despite the sniffling, sneezing and cold sweats, I got a good word count in and I did it again this morning. I haven’t worked out since Thanksgiving morning and I feel awful for it, but there’s no way I can sweat with this cold thing going on without feeling as though I was back in the 1600′s and still believed in the four humors.

Yeah, it’s a miserable Danica you’re reading about today. But I did have lovely Thanksgiving holiday otherwise. I read a lot. I watched a lot of movies (hello, The Black Swan was fucked up!) and I cuddled with fat cat and needy dog.

How was yours?

Song Association

I know y’all won’t be shocked to realize that I associate almost everything with music. I might have even mentioned this before, but for me nearly everyone, every situation I come in contact with ends up connected to a song in some way.

For example, one of my former co-workers was an interesting guy. He was my mom’s age and if you listened to him talk, you can just tell he did a lot more than study in college. He had the craziest stories and this slow, drawn out speech pattern that made him sound a bit like a hippie. Well, I remember riding along one day and War and Eric Burdon’s “Spill the Wine” came on the radio. My brain instantly connected that song with my friend and when I mentioned it to him, he said that was one of his favorite albums. Go figure.

So yeah, people connect to music in my mind. Before you ask, it has to be people I’ve met and talked with for a prolonged amount of time. Usually. Sometimes that doesn’t matter.

As for situations, I had one recently that surprised me. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Rebecca Zanetti’s Hunted at the FF&P Conference. By the way, excellent book. Yet it was one particular scene that happened in the book that brought a song to mind. I’ll try not to give away spoilers, but the scene was between a potential bad guy and a future heroine who’s still a child. The bad guy tells the little girl a parable about the frog and the scorpion and when she asks who he is in the parable, he tells her he’s the scorpion (if I remember correctly). The potential hero for this little girl appears and the bad guy goes away. The little girl looks at her hero and asks who he is in the parable and he replies, “I am the water”. (Forgive me Rebecca, if I got this wrong! I’m going off of memory.)

With that line, I had to put the book down because my brain instantly flipped to a song. I don’t know if Rebecca listened to this song when she wrote this scene, or if she gave it any thought, but it was the perfect song for the scene (which is something I tried to explain in my workshop).

The song is “I Am the Highway” by Audioslave. If you read Rebecca’s book when it comes out, do me a favor and listen to this song first and tell me if it fits the scene or not. I might just be crazy (I highly suspect I am).

This isn’t an official video of the song, but I find I like it. The people in this video were moving from L.A. to Washington.
